Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine. Successful candidate must maintain quality and safety standards, keep accurate records and maintain equipment and supplies.
Education, Skills and Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent GED
· Machinist Trade Certification or equivalent experience
· Must be able to read and understand written planning and follow verbal instructions.
· Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
· Ability to detect technical malfunctions and repair the same.
· Computer literacy
· Reading and interpreting of blue prints
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plans machining through work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters. Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions. Sets tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches.
Calculates requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, etc.
Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to standards.
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting.
Sharpen and replacing worn tools.
Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and following manufacturer's instructions.
Documents actions by completing production and quality reports.
