We are looking for a Systems Administrator to work in our Burnaby Office. You will be responsible for the following;
The Systems administrator will be responsible primarily for maintaining the companies UNIX and Windows systems and network. Configures and maintains all development and production. Assists Project Managers and Software Engineers with new projects and system definitions. Installs operating system patches, software upgrades, software installations, and modifications of UNIX and Windows systems. This position will work under general supervision and direction. In this position you will exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Ensures server performance and optimization; ensures server patching and upgrades are kept current
Writes and modifies perl or other language scripts for automation and problem alerting, manage CRON jobs
Supports new and existing applications and designs, works closely with software development team members
Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to the vendor
Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation
Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements
Participates in shared on-call responsibilities, includes periodic overnight or weekend work as necessary
On occasion you will assists and mentor junior system administrators
Provides knowledge to peers, project team members, and consultants as needed
Assists system architects with computing infrastructure design and technical direction
Ensures consistency and synchronization across server platforms and other integrated infrastructure components
Assists IT managers and senior management with planning and reporting
Four year college degree or equivalent in computer science plus a minimum of three years experience with diverse operating systems, primarily UNIX.
Prefered Certification in UNIX, LINUX, and AIX operating systems administration.
YOU must also have working knowledge of Window Servers, an understanding of the most common communication protocols and equipment, and the ability to utilize LAN-WAN management products.
Installs operating system patches, software upgrades, software installations, and modifications of Windows systems and network equipment.
VMware vSphere4 or greater certified is a plus, and/or worked with OVM systems.
Proficient with Oracle WebLogic and Oracle database 10gi and greater, Knowledge of SQL a plus.
Proficient with HP-UX OS and HP platforms and IBM AIX OS and IBM platforms including LPARS.
Experienced with diverse security and Anti-Virus tools.
Experienced with tape libraries, backup applications (Netbackup, Tivoli).
Experienced with network gear, configuring load balancers, and network-attached storage/direct-attached storage technologies.
Must be able to design, deploy, install, configure and maintain in-house and deployed UNIX and Windows based server systems.
Excellent communication skills
Some travel is required

Compensation: Base $90,000 - $95,000 + Benefits
