Maintenance Automation Technician

Location: Brampton, ON
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Compensation: $28.00-$29.00
Shift: Steady Days (Afternoon/Nights/Weekends when required)

To diagnose, trouble shoot, maintain and repair any automated equipment. To make recommendations on changes to further improve equipments quality, safety and productivity (method or process)

Main Duties/Activities:

Trouble shoot and improve any automated equipment using Allen Bradley PLC controls systems
Able to perform mechanical repairs on equipment to ensure production and quality is achieved
Provide 1st line maintenance to all equipment (mechanical, electrical, spare parts, consumables)
Provide 1st line troubleshooting on all equipment (mechanical, electrical, spare parts, consumables)
Provide 2nd line maintenance by performing scheduled preventative maintenance on all equipment
After any maintenance activity, run equipment to ensure maximum production and quality is achieved
Support production supervisors, gap leaders and operators to reach required daily targets
Ensure QRCI, Stop at Defect and similar protocols are followed
Keep up to date documentation related to maintenance
Maintain good housekeeping standards in area and throughout the plant
All other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager

Additional Responsibilities include:

Participate in the management of the inventory of spare parts and consumables to eliminate downtime
Actively participate in work teams to ensure production needs are met
Ability to work independently without supervision
Must have good judgement in solving problems and making decisions
Implement minimum two improvement ideas per month

Physical Requirements:

Requires pushing, pulling, reaching, standing, walking, gripping and bending, twisting, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds (full exhaust assemblies)
High mental and visual effort required
Able and willing to work overtime, weekends and shutdown periods, when required

Safety / Hazards:

Steel toe shoes, Safety glasses and Ear Protection required
May be exposed to flying objects such as weld slag and sparks, weld fumes and dust
Exposed to moderate burnes, cuts and bruises

Job Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience in automation trade background
Certified Electrician with a high level of electrical and mechanical ability
Must be able to program PLC’s on existing installation: Allen Bradley Micrologics, RS 5000, compact logics
Troubleshooting and logical skills in electrical wiring and mechanical tooling
Must have thorough knowledge of safety procedures
Able to read, work and modify blueprints using AutoCAD
Ability to follow instructions, both verbal and written, good math, language and reading skills
Must have good communication, both oral and written, and able to communicate at all levels
Welding experience and knowledge of weld defects preferred
Ability to use hand tools and equipment such as plasma cutter, cut of saw, grinders
The ability to train others
