Director of Marketing and Sales

The position
Working with the direction of the Board of Directors, the Director of Marketing and Sales builds tools, partnerships, and capabilities of the DMO to achieve its long term strategy of increasing visitation to the Waskesiu Wilderness Region

Specifically, the Director of Marketing and Sales has the responsibility to:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate tourism and promotional program activities and products to enhance the visibility and brand recognition of the DMO within groups, networks and communities it supports
  • Develop, implement, and update communication and public relations plans that enhance the visibility and brand recognition of the DMO within the groups, networks, and communities it supports
  • Develop and implement a membership sales and membership service plan that includes but is not limited to achieving sales targets, as well as two-way membership communication, education, and packaging
  • Develop and implement operational plans that establish measurable performance targets, goals, and objectives to support the strategic direction of the DMO
  • Track and analyze tourism and marketing trends, interpret the results and incorporate into: analysis; strategy development; provision of advice and recommendations to the Board on sustainable tourism strategies and promotion; and into tourism and promotional products and projects
  • Provide input to support DMO business and budgetary planning; participate in establishing package pricing policies
  • Prepare travel trade, travel media, and tourism industry briefings, analyses and reports, and deliver presentations
  • Develop and maintain local tourism community and association relationships; represent the DMO on local and regional tourism committees; attend tourism marketplace and trade shows and prepare assessments/reports on local tourism industry activities and directions; conduct follow-up and report on the outcome of events
  • Develop and place tourism-related ads online, using social media, in trade and consumer publications; maintain tourism listings, and monitor tourism-related media for promotional opportunities; coordinate familiarization (FAM) tours and conduct site visits for tourism-related media and clients
  • Represent the DMO to Tourism Saskatchewan and other governments, the business community, media and other stakeholders with an interest in the work, goals, and direction of the organization
  • Contribute to the development of the DMO all-season brand
  • Prepare any and all budgets required for annual or specific projects as required by the position or requested by the Board
  • Ensure proper accounting of financials, both cash and in-kind for the organization
  • Ensure all reporting obligations to funders are met

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Understand web-based and international marketing in a tourism environment
  • Understand the provincial and international tourism associations and industries
  • Display skill in working with a membership-driven, non-profit organization
  • Have familiarity with business operations, policies and procedures
  • Have successfully developed and broadened emerging tourism organizations
  • Bachelor of Marketing, Communication or related field, or equivalent industry experience

  • Technical online marketing and social media skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proven sales expertise
  • Professionalism, maturity, strong organizational and time management expertise
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiations in tourism and resort marketing
  • Show industriousness and creativity, respecting budgets and entrepreneurial values
  • Must be willing to travel, hold a valid class 5 drivers licence and own an appropriate, reliable vehicle
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
