Vitran Express Canada is a leading regional and national LTL service provider. With 15 terminals in major metropolitan areas across 10 provinces, freight is transported over the highway or via rail intermodal service. Vitran also provides a premium expedited service between Central and Western Canada, Maxximum, for time sensitive shipments reducing transit time by as much as 40% utilizing driver teams.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor will be responsible for the selection, training, scheduling, supervising and assisting the Operations Administration Team. With the ability to affect change and create efficiencies, the Operations Supervisor will implement improved policies throughout the Operations Administration team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
Oversee interline, in bonds, customs, appointments, special accounts, out of town pick ups
Evaluate and implement changes for staffing levels, work schedules, procedures and workflow processes
Supervise department performance through motivation, monitoring, and coaching
Maintain attendance records and authorize vacation request for subordinates
Assess and define training needs and participate in cross training, on-the-job training and new hire training
Collaborates with the Dispatch Supervisor to maintain efficiency within the Operations Administration Team

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to plan, organize, delegate, develop, and lead employees on a team basis
Good motivator with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills
Able to handle a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously
Working knowledge of freight movement systems, methodologies, and procedures
Working knowledge of basic computer system
Certificates in First Aid/CPR, Dangerous Good Handling, Propane Handling, Canada Labour Code Part II

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Minimum: High school diploma with related industry experience; Degree strongly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft products: Excel, Word, Outlook
Ability to multi-task while interacting with others in a fast paced environment
Incumbent must be organized and able to understand transportation rules and regulations
Incumbent must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
