Position Summary:
Virsa is searching for a passionate and community oriented members to join the Social Media Committee. This committee works under the direction of the Director of Social Media to establish, maintain and expand the online presence of Virsa. The Director of Social Media's role supports these efforts on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and blogging by implementing effective and cutting-edge strategies to build the audience, increase sustained engagement and drive traffic to media promoting Virsa's programs and initiatives. The role of the Committee Members entails activities pertaining to, but not limited to:

  • Attend scheduled committee meetings
  • Support the leadership and initiatives of the Directors of Social Media
  • Assist with development of strategies to drive traffic to social media pages and engage youth in conversation
  • Ensure regular dissemination of campaign messages through social media including external site profiles (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and internally hosted blogs
  • Develop creative concepts for media to use online such as graphics, videos, and emails
  • Write blog posts, promotional emails and social media content for various projects and organization initiatives


  • Education/experience/interest in Marketing, Social Media, Photography or related fields
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Some experienced with social media regarding attraction to organization
  • Able to respond and interact with others on social media channels
  • Working knowledge of social media sites and tools
  • Creative thinker
  • Strong editing and writing skills with ability to capture community's attention in 140 characters or less.
  • Working knowledge of issues surrounding the Lower Mainland youth
  • Experience in working with volunteer-run organizations
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently in an environment that requires self-motivation and personal responsibility, attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Commitment Level:

  • 10-15 hrs. /month
  • Long-term
