Position Summary:
Virsa is searching for passionate and community-oriented members to join its Fund Development Committee. The Fund Development Committee is responsible for supporting and working with the the Director of Fund Development to raise awareness about Virsa and build relationships with financial partners in the community. The role of the Committee Member entails activities pertaining to, but not limited to:

  • Attend scheduled committee meetings
  • Create a fund development plan and strategy
  • Build endowment funds to secure long range and sustainable sources of funding
  • Maintain positive relationships with current donors and supporters and develop strategies to encourage new donations and support
  • Prepare proposals and grant applications
  • Make presentation to service organizations, corporate donors, foundations and other community groups and individuals to secure funding
  • Conduct prospect research on new grants and donors
  • Grant research and preparation
  • Develop donor and prospects list
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements of approved grants
  • Form and maintain partnerships with community members, agencies and with others as deemed appropriate
  • Participate in community tables deemed appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in Business, Communication, Community Development or related field
  • Knowledgeable about a wide variety of fundraising techniques
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrates persistence and tact when dealing with others
  • Ability to motivate, persuade and inspire people
  • Passionate about working with local youth
  • Experienced in working with volunteer-run organization
  • Strong problem solving and group work skills
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently in an environment that requires self-motivation and personal responsibility
  • Sound computer skills
  • Extremely Effective oral and written communication skills

Commitment:

  • 10-15 hrs. /month
  • Long-term
