Upper Canada Heritage Farm is looking for a live-in person or couple to assist in its pastured pig operation. Located on 100 acres about 20 minutes north of Brockville, our family raises a heritage breed, the Large Black Pig, on rotating pastures. We have succeeded in helping to bring this remarkable breed back from the brink of extinction by developing a thriving market for their meat in the Nation’s Capital.
We need a person or couple to live and work on the farm, either in the house or in a 26’ trailer on the property. You would be expected to spend on average 5-6 hours each day tending the herd. Duties include feeding, watering, bedding, equipment maintenance, electric fencing repairs and barn maintenance. Opportunities are available for you to create your own garden, chicken flock, or other agricultural endeavour using our equipment and land.
All living expenses are covered. As well, you will receive a weekly cash stipend (amount to be discussed) and will have access to a car.
Farming experience, rough carpentry and familiarity with tractors and other farm equipment is an asset, but not necessary. We are looking for non-smokers with enthusiasm, honesty, flexibility, a good work ethic and a positive outlook who want to learn about alternative farming. This is a full-time year round position.
The position is available immediately. (Respectfully, no children or pets.)
