The Faculty of Science has a vacancy for a Senior Development Officer (SDO) to join the Faculty Advancement team with a primary focus on major gift fundraising. This exciting and challenging role requires a results-oriented and creative individual with demonstrated relationship building skills. The successful candidate will have a university degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, as well as appropriate fundraising experience with specific activity in securing major gifts. Equivalent backgrounds in education and practical experience will also be considered. We are looking for a strong and progressive background of success in an advancement capacity including developing and executing strategies, securing major gifts, project management and producing supporting material. This position will suit an individual with a solid track record of successful donor engagement and gift solicitation and the ability to effectively marry donor philanthropic goals with Faculty priorities and activities. We are also looking for an individual with proven ability to think strategically and work independently in a collaborative and collegial environment to drive new initiatives or enhance existing programs and to be able to effectively articulate these initiatives. A sound understanding of, background in or education in Science is a requirement of this role.
You bring to this position a demonstrated ability to meet competing deadlines in an organized manner as well as strong leadership, communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills; supervisory and mentoring experience are strongly preferred. A strong understanding of the university environment including the integration of research and an in-depth understanding of Science is an asset. The candidate should be proficient with Microsoft Office, and preference will be given to candidates who have experience with Constituent Management Software (i.e. Raiser’s Edge) or similar applications. CFRE or post-secondary education in the area of fundraising and volunteer management, as well as a commitment to professional development activities and career progression is a strong asset.
