Plant Mechanic

Responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining all industrial equipment at the recycling facility and operations site. This includes installing and repairing conveyors, hydraulic systems, mechanical piping, motors, and related equipment, basic welding. The individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency in rebuilding, equipment alignment, and trouble shooting complex mechanical systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work in an incident and injury free manner
  • Repair various equipment including motors, pumps, agitators, conveyors, and hydraulics
  • Cutting and welding, including pipes and steel fabrication
  • Install and repair motors and conveyor belt systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems to determine the cause of failures
  • Operate scissor lift and forklift
  • Complete any other tasks as required or as directed by management
  • Shift work may be required

Experience Required

  • Minimum three years in an industrial environment as a mechanic or related role
  • Equipment alignment (pumps, motors, hydraulics)
  • Ability to rebuild pumps to manufacturing/operating tolerances
  • Ability to tension belt drive systems
  • Able to pass all positions for flat plate welding
  • Three years experience trouble shooting maintenance issues on conveyors, dust collectors, fans
  • Prior experience installing roller bearings
  • Prior experience in lubrications (ultra sonic lubrication, pressurized oil systems, sampling gearboxes

Education/Certification Requirements

  • High school or GED
  • Graduate from an applicable certified apprentice program or company approved mechanical training program
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record

Working Conditions

  • Physically demanding, very heavy
  • Employees are subject to extreme weather conditions
  • Winter weather outside and hot weather in summer outside and inside
  • Work may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles
