Rewarding and enjoyable place to work.
Plant Manager (Current Employee), Dothan, Al – January 29, 2013
Pros: working hours
Cons: summer time temps inside the plant.
I manage the day to day operations of the processing plant, grounds and equipment. The management team at Unifirst has been supportive, informative and helpful while I learned the business. The hardest part of my job is to ensure my employees stay motivated and efficient while working in a sometimes hot environment. The best part of my job is knowing – more... that I provide a quality product and service for our customers and a positive working environment for our employees. – less

Unifirst is a great place to work; strong family/team environment
Production (Current Employee), Durham, NC – January 28, 2013
Pros: good work environment, good benefits
I start the day by greeting my team partners, meeting with other departments, and my superiors.
I continue through the day addressing any issues that may arise or planning and implementing strategies for future projects. All the time, focusing on customer satisfaction and continual improvement.

There is a strong sense of cammaradery within Unifirst – more... and all departments work well with each other. – less

Micromanagement crazy
Sales Representative (Current Employee), Pittsburgh, PA – January 20, 2013
Pros: car allowance, ok pay.
Cons: micromangement, long hours, work holidays.
Long mondays, office in the middle of nowhere. Mandatory office days twice a week. Negative office environment.

co-workers are good people. Average tenure there is one year. Pretty much a resume builder.

WORST JOB EVER!!
Route Delivery (Former Employee), New Kensington Pa. – January 17, 2013
Pros: off weekends
Cons: poor management, 12+ hrs day no overtime, ect ect ect
I worked there for 4 weeks, route delivery. my trainer was not training me properly, he was teaching me how to skip stops , and just bill them through anyways, basically ripping off the customers. I brought this to managements attention twice but it seemed like either they didnt believe me or didnt want to deal with it. The route was the biggest route – more... in the company , with some days 44 stops and other day 64 stops. theres no way that you can do all those stops properly. my trainer agreed with me on that but said thats how you make your money and he was teaching me which stops you can skip or short them on supplys. i was told they were going to cut my route because it was too big but when i asked the supervisor about that he said no we cant cut the route, this is your route and you have to have a strong work ethic to be able to do it.. LOL. so they want me to work 12 -13 hrs aday for 125 bucks.. Also i worked sick for 2 days , then it became worse and turned into the flu, i tried to call off saying i needed to go see a doctor, was having trouble breathing, they called me back saying how important is your job to you and you have to come in and dog it out! i came in and worked an hour than said the hell with this, i needed to see a doctor. went back to shop and dropped the truck off and told them i couldnt do it and left.. i did see a doctor that day and was prescribed prednisone and a breathing device, and was told i have a severe case of the flu.. Supervisor calls me that nite and said you are not aloud to call off, we told you this in the interview, so be here tommorow or your fired.. i heard that they lost 26 route drivers in 2012, after being there for 4 weeks i can see who the problem is, MANAGEMENT!!!!! – less

Autonomous Fulfilling Workplace
Sales Consultant (Current Employee), Corpus Christi, TX – January 14, 2013
My work day consists of trying to find ways to set appointments to ultimately make a sale. The only day I go to the office is typically on Mondays. I start the day by filling out my Plan and Review Report. This is a list of the appointments I have scheduled that week, the dollar amounts of accounts I have sold, the pace I am on to reach my sales goals, – more... what city I will be in each day, and all the accounts I am currently working with that are close to being sold. I discuss with my sales manager what I am doing to accomplish my goals. We discuss what tactics will work for specific customers, ways to overcome objectives I’ve heard, strategies for future contacts, and how my performance was the week before. After my Plan and Review I spend the rest of the day making phone calls in order to set up appointments, I contact customers that are close to getting sold, and I prepare my week by getting samples, literature, and making emblems. The rest of the week I am meeting with appointments I already have set. In between the times I have set for my appointments I am stopping by my prospects in order to get appointments set and looking for new businesses in that territory. Every activity I complete I enter into my sales logic database. I do this so my managers can make sure I am being productive and so that I can update my knowledge of that prospect. There are fields that show employee contacts, general contact info, agreement expiration, what competitor they are using, and how many employees they have. After I enter my activity I enter the date of my next activity. Every week I receive a generated report of the activities I have scheduled for that week. I space out the activities so they average anywhere from 60-80 activities per week.

I learned how to stay organized and how to manage my time wisely. I also learned how to make the most of every interaction by getting any and all information I possibly can get even if it's not from the person making a decision. I learned to not accept a "NO" from someone who doesn't have the power to say "YES". I learned to never let any stone unturned and to go in every door. I learned to listen more than talk. I trained myself to always have a response to any objective that came my way. I learned to never get discouraged because things always change. I many have a hard time setting an appointment with an individual and a week later he no longer works there. A customer can say "NO" a thousand times but I'm only concerned about the one time they say "YES". I learned it's more important to help a customer instead of just trying to make the sale. I only sold about 20-40% of the meetings I had. Most of the accounts I was helping with their current service. Helping them would increase the likelihood of acquiring them in the future. I learned patience. Every time I met with a customer I was one step closer to eventually acquiring their business. Most sales took time. As long as you steadily kept in contact with people sales eventually happened. Sales for this company is all a numbers game and being there when the opportunity presented itself. – less

Productive and Fun Work Place
Human Resources (Current Employee), Wilmington, MA – January 9, 2013
Pros: great co-workers/nice benefits
Cons: distance from residence
I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company. This is the first company I've worked for since separating from the military, and the transition has been extremely easy. This organization's values and legacy appreciation are paralleled to that of what I'm used to. A portion of one of my first few days with the company was spent with the – more... rest of my department going over core values and the organization's mission statement... it was a perfect fit. The people are great and very helpful in terms of training. I have yet to meet anyone who lacks professionalism and a sense of urgency. – less

Worst environment EVER!
Sales Representative (Current Employee), Missouri – December 26, 2012
Pros: beginning sales experience
Cons: poor management, lack of respect
Absolutely no respect for sales reps. 80-85% turnover. Micromanaged to a T as you have to enter every single step you take into a early 90's blackberry...and they are electronically lagging...still in in 20th century. You also have to watch your commissions because they are notorious for shorting you what your've earned! If you like to grind it out – more... day in and day out, drive 500 miles a week and only get paid for 300 and have mulitiple managers that are on all different pages then this is perfect for you! – less

Human Resources/Benefits Intern (Former Employee), Wilmington, MA – December 13, 2012
Pros: i was working with people i already knew.
Cons: short lunch break
A typical day at work would be putting together mailings, or filing.
I have learned how to alphabetize a lot better as well as putting together boxes to be mailed. My co-workers were very nice to me and very helpful as well. They helped me make my experience working at UniFirst a lot more enjoyable.
