Contract job with TXDOT
Reconciliation Clerk (Current Employee), Austin, TXMarch 3, 2014
Basic work environment, they like to move you up from within. Not much into extra out of work events etc. Pretty much an 8-5 job.

UH-60A/L Mechanic (Former Employee), Frankfort, KYFebruary 28, 2014
Pros: working side by side with soldiers
Cons: lay offs
Working for URS was enjoyable. You are able to work with the same people. Contract work can be tricky, it is great while the military needs you, but when they don't .... Layoffs come quickly and with out notice.
The most enjoyable part is getting to work on the Army's equipment along side their finest soldiers.

Engineer Technologist (Current Employee), Stockton, UTFebruary 25, 2014
Pros: very good people to work for and with.
Cons: long drive to work but it is manageable.
Arrive at office check computer for any new job request's. Go to morning meeting. Proceed to tasks at hand for the day.

Management provides you with the tools needed to perform any and all work that comes your way.

Work for and with very good people.

The government regulation slows the planning and execution of work down.

Great place to work, not so great benefits.
Electronics Technician II (Former Employee), Tobyhanna Army Depot, PAFebruary 25, 2014
Pros: great pay
Cons: not so great benefits
The contract URS had was a defense contract with the Tobyhanna Army Depot. The work wasn't bad at all, but it was temporary. The pay was great but the benefits package was not on par with the salary we were making. This was a union shop.

Work should be fulfilling and enjoyable most of the time. Too much emphasis on profit drains enthusiasm from employees

It's a good environment to be around. Although there is way to many people trying to be in charge. People I work with are very helpful and knowledgable.

Liked working with the staff. Not a good place for job advancement.
Designer (Current Employee), Groton, CTFebruary 19, 2014
Pros: benefits were decent, flexible hours, education reimbursement (as long as it was in a degree program)
Cons: little to no possibility for advancement, management structure was not clearly defined
In the group I worked at, most of the work there are government contracts, some are long term contracts (5+ year) and some or short (few months). Working with the staff there was good. Everyone got along with each other fine. There was not a defined management structure. No chance for advancement for 99% of the employees there.

Lots of cross training opportunities
Electronics Technician II (Current Employee), Texarkana, TXFebruary 10, 2014
Pros: 4 day work week
Cons: no breaks except lunch
There are lots of cross training opportunities at URS at Red River Army Depot. The federal services division is a little shaky now that the federal budget is subject to a vote every few months. It makes it difficult to rely on the future. I expect that many will be laid off but will offer a wealth of experience for a new company.

Maybe elsewhere but not here
No way you get this... (Current Employee), Carlsbad, NMFebruary 6, 2014
Pros: good money
Cons: no advancement for educated technical staff, always reducing benefits
Good pay, fair benefits & they treat their "Salaried" employees poorly. There is no such thing as a salaried employee here...and they will go to great lengths to screw you out of a full 80 hour paycheck. Sad.

Lots of lip service from Corporate honchos too. They have no clue what non-managerial personnel strive for...

Productive and challenging working with JDE Accounting system
Job Cost Administrator (Current Employee), San Angelo, TXFebruary 5, 2014
Pros: great benefits
Cons: very little time for family or social life.
Every work day is very productive. I enjoy working with all my co-workers, even the Management Support. The job is very challenging, which I enjoy. I learn something new everyday working with JDE Accounting system. The hardest part about the job, is that I am required to work basically a 60 to 80 hours a week, which gives me very little time for family – more... or social life. – less
