Carson Energy Services, a division of URS Flint, is currently looking for Heavy Equipment (Track Hoe/Back Hoe specific) Operators to join our team in the Swift Current, SK area. Preference will be given to local candidates, or candidates that are willing to relocate.
Under the guidance and direction of the site foreman or direct supervisor, the heavy equipment operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in an efficient, safe and appropriate manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life while supporting construction activities and oilfield maintenance services.
The successful candidate will be highly proficient and experienced at operating at least 3 of the required pieces of equipment with minimal supervision and will carry out duties as follows:
Ability to plan and execute all aspects of excavations related to utilities, foundations and grade work.
Be able to read grade drawings and site layout.
Identify granular materials and separate as required.
Know and demonstrate machine maintenance and capabilities.
Actively supports safety culture by operating equipment and tools in a safe manner that conforms to URS Flint's Safe Work Procedures, follows PPE policies and practices, and reports all near misses and incidents to management in a timely fashion.
Conducts pre-operational checks on equipment and cleans, lubricates and refills equipment as necessary; notifies the supervisor or foreman of all damaged or unsafe equipment or tools.
Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, dozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities.
Operates heavy equipment to lay, spread or compact gravel or other surface materials during highway and road construction.
Operates heavy equipment to move, load and unload materials and supplies.
Attends and participates in various meetings such as monthly safety meetings, pre-job and tailgate meetings
Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required, including removing personal belongings and trash from cab and wiping up spills etc.
Demonstrates good judgment and the ability to think problems through; where applicable, identifies and suggests improvements improving job quality.
Interacts with internal or external customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner that contributes toward a positive and productive worksite.
TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods
Must have basic reading and writing skills with the ability to speak/understand English fluently with a minimum 2 years full time work experience as a heavy equipment operator supporting construction and/or oilfield maintenance services.
Preferred: A high school diploma with 5 years full time work experience as a heavy equipment operator supporting construction and/or oilfield maintenance services.
Must have experience operating at least some of the following equipment: rubber tire backhoe, dozer, excavator (Caterpillar, Hitachi, John Deer and/or Komatsu mini 50’s to 800’s), and single motor scraper.
Experience operating single engine 621 (G/F) Caterpillar scrapers, D6 (R/T) or D8 (T) Caterpillar or 650 John Deer dozers or 14-140 (H) graders is considered an asset.
Experience operating heavy equipment with GPS tracking devices such as Trimble or Topcon is considered an asset.
Ability to make basic measurements and mathematical calculations.
Basic understanding of survey grades and construction methods.
Ability to read instructions, follow technical specifications and grade plans.
Must have valid Driver’s license with a relatively clean driver’s abstract.
Sound understanding of safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites.
Good vision and spatial ability.
Good eye-hand coordination and good manual dexterity.
Physical strength and stamina.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Basic small hand and power tool knowledge is considered an asset.
