Job Title: Mental Health Counselor

Compensation: $49,140 - $54,600 annually (depending on qualifications and experience)

The Tsay Keh Dene First Nation is located in the Rocky Mountain Trench, approximately 575 km north of Prince George, B.C. The Tsay Keh Dene Nation’s Territory is comprised of 862.2 hectares bordered by the Williston Reservoir, the Finlay Forest Service Road and the Finlay River. The band membership of Tsay Keh Dene is approximately 400 and the administration is based out of two band offices located in Prince George and Tsay Keh Dene.

Working between the Prince George office and the Tsay Keh Dene Counseling Centre the Mental Health Counselor is responsible for interviewing clients, conducting assessments, providing one-on-one counseling and group therapy. He/she will advocate for client groups, provide referrals to available social service resources and consult with doctors and other health professionals. He/she maintains sustainable working relationships with community agencies, schools, law enforcements and courts. He/she investigates and takes authorized protective action when required in cases of child abuse and/or neglect. He/she maintains accurate and detailed records, attends department staff meetings and participates in relevant continued education activities. Other duties shall be assigned as required by the Director of Health and Wellness.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills & abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master's Degree preferred - Psychology, Social Work or relative field, from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 2 years mental health work experience preferred.
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Advanced skill in assessment, interviewing and mental health counseling skills.
  • Some travel to northern remote community.
  • Criminal record check clearance
