Coordinates and implements best practices in nursing clinical practices and risk management initiatives related to resident care (falls, restraint use, wound management, infection control, staff education). Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level, maximizing staff resources and contributing to the interdisciplinary team approach to resident care. Maintains an active presence in the Resident House Areas mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care. As required meets with family members and others to deal with issues specific to the care of their loved ones. Effectively supports the RAI-MDS program; educates staff on E-MAR, POC and PCC. Responsible for the High Intensity Needs program. Assists the DORC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection analysis, report writing, and procedural updates. Works collaboratively with the DORC on special projects, reviews, and other duties as may be assigned. Assumes responsibility for the nursing department in the DORC's absence.
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience Required:
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; RN with BScN preferred. Advanced wound care knowledge and current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvement. Knowledge of RAI-MDS and other applicable software programs. Demonstrated superior leadership and organization skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of applicable legislation, current nursing and healthcare practices; demonstration of concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents

Minimum of three years of experience in long term care; previous management experience an asset
