Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Data Warehouse Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the enterprise data warehouse structure. Performs complex reformatting and analyses and builds recommendations based on the restructured data. Assesses long-term strategic goals for data warehousing in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Develops and implements an enterprise data warehouse structure; maintains, tunes, and reorganizes the data warehouse that optimizes performance, maintains data accuracy and filegroup management; develops archiving, backup, and recovery strategies for databases and cubes; manages the day-to-day oversight of the warehouse.

Monitors and analyzes data volume, availability, and partitioning strategy; observes execution plans for data mart queries for performance improvement through the introduction of new indexes, tables, or statistics; performs analysis for managing growth and maximizing input/output (I/O); monitors the ETL jobs and related processes.

Configures, manages, and executes the production and test environment; implements and tests ETL scripts, stored procedures, triggers and views; ETL source and version control; develops plan and test cases to ensure the solution meets the requirements; coordinates service outages and troubleshoot production issues in partnership with the Database Administrators (DBA) and Network Operations teams; manages the security and access control in both test and development environments.

Collaborates with, and acts as the key bridging relationship resource among various departments; represents the data warehouse team and provides technical expertise to business leaders; notifies management and key stakeholders in real-time of important developments, potential problems and related information;

Participates and contributes to the enterprise data warehouse strategy and high-profile initiatives; produces reports and performs queries to optimize the data to support business initiatives; contributes to the change processes for data warehouse releases and advising users of process, developing schedules, and arrange user testing; documents regularly scheduled procedures to ensure business continuity.

Develops functional guidelines and operational procedures for systems users, including problem escalation procedures; may also coordinate related training; develops and maintains data models, data dictionary, and data maps for warehouse system.

Researches and maintains currency on market trends and product advances; recommends, coordinates, and schedules product upgrades and purchases.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

The competencies for this position are typically acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, including courses in physical database design and administration, plus five years of related data warehouse experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Requirements:

Recent experience with SQL Server 2012, Microsoft SSIS, and T-SQL language

In-depth experience with OLAP architecture design, Extract/Transform/Load (ETL), data warehouse data models, star schema, and Kimball methodology

Strong analytical and technical judgment

Solid experience in database performance tuning techniques

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of stored procedure writing, query optimization and indexes

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
