Seasonal Employee – Public Works

The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Seasonal Employee – Public Works.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Roads & Fleet, the Seasonal Employee – Public Works is a member of the Public Works and Environmental Services Department. In a team environment, the Seasonal Employee – Public Works will assist in performing a variety of construction, preventative and regular maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure, such as roads, sidewalks, curbs, sanitary and storm sewers, equipment maintenance, and general labour duties.

Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate must possess a minimum Grade 12 diploma, have a minimum of three (3) years heavy civil construction experience, preferably in a municipal setting, and hold a valid Class DZ driver’s license. The successful applicant must have practical knowledge and be proficient in all aspects of the operation and maintenance of a variety of construction equipment, including but not limited to pick-up trucks, single axle and tandem trucks, tractor loaders, backhoes and roadside mowers. Candidates must possess knowledge of both rural and urban operations and are required to have a general understanding of construction, preventative and regular maintenance of roads, sidewalks, curbs, sanitary and storm sewers. In addition, the successful candidate will be proficient in reading and understanding blueprints and have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Highway Traffic Act, as well as the associated regulations.

The successful candidate must be available to work forty (40) hours each week between March 15th and December 15th, annually. Applicants must be able to work shifts as required including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Regular hours of work are between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, seven (7) days a week.

The Town offers an hourly rate of $19.34 (2014), in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 702.13. This position is subject to a probationary period of sixty (60) days of work.
