In cooperation with our remote service provider for server maintenance, the IT Specialist will oversee operations of all computer systems, plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of the Town of High Level that analyze, design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks and information systems for a staff of 4o+ employees throughout a variety of facilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are;
- Diploma in computer engineering and support (or closely related field) from a recognised post-secondary institution. Examples would be:
o Computer Engineering Technology (NAIT)
o PC Service and Support (NAIT)
o Computer Support Technician (CDI)
- In lieu of a suitable diploma, one or more recognised certifications will be considered:
o CompTIA A-Plus
o CompTIA N-Plus
o Microsoft MCSA (2010 or later - Windows 7)
o Microsoft MCSE (Desktop Infrastructure certification)
The minimum experience required to perform these duties are;
o Minimum 3 years practical desktop support experience working in a Microsoft-based network environment.
o Effective written and oral communication skills plus the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel,
o Ability to deal with all users in a patient, courteous, diplomatic and tactful manner,
Special Requirements:
o The minimum physical requirements required to perform these duties include the fitness and ability required to lift up to 50lbs; the position does require moving and/or repositioning of equipment or furniture.

JOB DESCRIPTION
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (IT Specialist)

In cooperation with our remote service provider for server maintenance, the IT Specialist will oversee operations of all computer systems, plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of the Town of High Level that analyze, design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks and information systems.
The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and recommend data administration procedures and standards;
2. Research and document data requirements, data collection and administration policy and procedures, data access rules and security;
3. In cooperation with our remote network service provider, develop and implement secure network and routing solutions that encompass telecommunications, failover capability and solutions for disaster recovery and outages. Document the network model with network diagrams;
4. In cooperation with our remote network service provider, proactively maintain and upgrade server infrastructure including SQL Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Outlook Web Access, security certificates, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, Public SMTP, Secure SMTP, Secure POP3, Radius authentication, File Sharing, Printer Sharing, Antivirus integration and Antispam integration;
5. Develop, implement and monitor procedures for network and/or internet database access and usage and for the backup and recovery of data;
6. Conduct research and provide advice to administration regarding the collection, availability, security and suitability of data;
7. Plan, organize, control and evaluate the operations of information systems and electronic data processing (EDP) for all departments;
8. Research and recommend policies and procedures for electronic data processing and computer systems operations;
9. Assist during construction of new TOHL infrastructure with respect to establishing system requirements, specifications and costs;
10. Assist in controlling the computer related annual budget and expenditures for the TOHL;
11. Monitor and operate computers, computer peripherals, and data communication network components;
12. Report on current usage and trends;
13. Provide training and educational updates for staff and/or Councillors with respect to computer equipment and/or tablet use;
14. Troubleshoot and take corrective action when problems occur;
15. Annually update the computer equipment list, additions and deletions; prior to annual budget preparations and place computer, printer and IT related orders after new budgets are passed
16. Set up, configure and map desktop and/or laptop computers for all new staff, providing network orientations and tutorials when required.
17. Determine appropriate job and equipment setup in accordance with daily schedules;
18. Perform support for employees on trouble calls;
19. Perform computer room environmental preventative maintenance on assigned areas and equipment;
20. May lift supplies, forms, and equipment and rearrange cables and furniture to accommodate operational needs;
21. Monitor server resource usage for maintenance and determining requirements for hard drive space, server memory, processing power and network utilization;
22. Develop and maintain acceptable use policy and reporting for Internet and server use;

24. Document IT policies, procedures, communications, server and network infrastructure;
25. Manage phone and locks and security camera computer software systems and users
26. Manage photocopier and other various IT leases
27. Act as a contact for emergency and non-emergency servicing of all equipment
28. Manage cell phone and tablet (iPad) ordering, set-up and trouble shooting
29. Manage and monitor electronic equipment in meeting rooms and council chambers
30. Perform server and software information back-ups and upgrades when required.
