Community Recreation Program Assistant
1 year Term Position
WAGE SCALE $18.44 - $22.45

The Town of High Level requires a responsible & energetic individual for the position of
Community Recreation Program Assistant, commencing immediately for a 1 year Term.
This position is 40 hrs/wk with a comprehensive benefit package after 3 months.
Reporting directly to the Community Recreation Program Supervisor, the Community Recreation Program Assistant assists with project and program & event development, participates fully with program & event implementation/delivery and facilitation; also sharing administrative and clerical services for the Community Service Department.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Clear Criminal Record RCMP check and CYIM check will be required prior to hire.
The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are;

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma;
  • Post Secondary Education in a related field is an asset (Recreation, Community Development, project management, etc).
  • Valid class 5 Drivers License

The minimum experience required to perform these duties are;

  • Ability to supervise children and various groups
  • Experience in program planning and delivery
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and supervision
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting

JOB DESCRIPTION
COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Reporting directly to the Community Recreation Program Supervisor, the Community Recreation Program Assistant is responsible for project and program development and implementation, and sharing administrative and clerical services in accordance to approved policies and procedures. The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Work independently or as part of a team to develop, implement and facilitate programs and events for the community, families, children, adults and seniors.
  • Take part in all routine office work including; answering phones, handling cash, program registration, photocopying, faxing, filing, typing correspondence, and compiling monthly reports and stats.
  • Assist in program and special event planning and delivery, i.e. Canoe Camp, Basketball Camp, Lacrosse, Girl Power, Canada Day and WinterFest.
  • Assist with advertising and marketing of Community Services programs
  • Participates in the Health and Safety Program.
  • Assists with distributing the Around Town Brochure
  • Work with the Summer Program Leaders to develop summer program ideas & deliver the summer program.
  • Assist with program registrations and input all information in the CLASS system.
  • Collaborate and assist other staff and volunteers in implementing FCSS projects/programs.
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment, orientation, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies, organizations, and community groups.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all Town employees and volunteers.
  • Participate on community committees as directed by Community Recreation Program Supervisor.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Community Recreation Program Supervisor.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING
1. The minimum level of education required to perform these duties are;
- Completion of Grade 12 Diploma;
- Post Secondary Education in a related field (Recreation, Community Development, project management, etc).
- C.Y.I.M. check and CRIM (criminal record) check
- Standard First Aid and CPR
- Valid Alberta Drivers License

2. The minimum experience required to perform these duties are;

  • Experience in program AND SPECIAL EVENT planning and delivery
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and supervision
  • Experience with computers (Microsoft Work, Publisher, Excel and the internet)
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting
  • Ability to supervise children and various groups
