The HTML Web Developer assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of client World Wide Web sites by providing strategic input to and managing the delivery of planned client communication services. Such assistance includes, but is not limited to: preparing strategic and operational plans, coordinating the process of adding and updating information to the sites, liaising with client and staff, managing and analyzing user feedback, coordinating with advisory committees, promoting the site, and evaluating the effectiveness of the site. Effectively assists as gatekeeper, managing information coming from all sources.
The HTML Web Developer collects, writes, edits, constructs, and maintains client information for posting on the World Wide Web as necessary. The primary emphasis of the position is on electronic publication, including new and emerging electronic media. The HTML Web Developer is responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining a clients Internet presence. The HTML Web Developer is responsible for keeping the company apprised of new (electronic) media developments and opportunities, and also provides training for client and staff when deemed appropriate.
Relevant post-secondary education and/or experience in WWW site development and management from the point-of-view of communications, marketing and customer service, combined with a strategic understanding of Web development and design, and of online delivery systems.
Technical aptitude and knowledge of Web and online technologies; appreciation of browser compatibility issues.
Ability to work productively with design and content generating individuals as a team.
Superior written and oral communications skills.
Knowledge of effective Web authoring practices and online presentation techniques.
Extensive knowledge of relevant source code applications, as well as graphics applications and techniques.
Experience in project coordination, and the ability to remain aware of long-term goals while producing immediate solutions.
Initiative, judgment and tact are required to interact with clients, and staff.
Collect, edit, write, design, format, construct, maintain, and update client Web pages. (Write and document code)
Maintain uniform look to client Web pages and develop standard graphic and conceptual templates for official pages and information (uniform fonts, icons, page format, document organization, etc) so that all site documentation presents a uniform look and feel; promotes the use of templates or other electronic aids to assist in preparing appropriately formatted HTML documents.
Build as much interactivity as possible.
Manages the content, flow, and accessibility of information by liaising with appropriate content providers, and providing web design and development consultation as requested.
Adhere to recommended coding standards.
Actively participates with client to help establish objectives, and enhance the site by sharing best practices and establishing standards and guidelines for content.
Provides requested training and support.
Assists clients and staff with problems associated with web development and interactive capabilities, as well as answering relevant questions associated with web design, development and interactive capabilities.
Provide accurate time estimates for work undertaken and monitor as necessary.
Promotes the site to appropriate external audiences by liaising with other Webmasters (as required), and WWW search sites.
Delegates support tasks to student workers.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, the HTML Web Developer may be required to perform other assigned duties from time to time.
Under general supervision, the HTML Web Developer is responsible for the content, organization, appearance and updating of information on client Internet and the World Wide Web sites.
Stay abreast of developments, trends in electronic new media, and report and recommend on their implications.
Subscribe to and read journals, newsletters, resources (online or printed), that will assist in this role.
Attend (and suggest attendance in) workshops, seminars, conferences that provide training in electronic new media.
As a public relations generalist, the HTML Web Developer is expected to take part in various staff meetings and initiate discussions about current and future Web developments and in developments of online delivery systems.
