The Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI) is an independent, not-for-profit corporation, which is the research arm of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Our scientist work closely with clinicians, medical professionals, and academic and industry partners, to improve healthcare through excellence in patient-centered research focused on three molecular imaging-based platforms: Advanced Detection Devices, Imaging Guided Interventions, and Probe Development and Biomarker Exploration.

In conjunction with the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, we are currently seeking candidates for the following position:

Research Assistant Co-op (16 weeks, starting Jan 2013)

The individual filling this position works closely with the TBRRI Scientists and their time is devoted to the support and enabling of research. The objective is to design novel functional materials for medical applications using advanced methods of computational solid states physics. The range of medical applications includes radiation medical imaging, therapeutic ultrasound and implants. The individual will be involved in “virtual” material synthesis and characterisation taking advantage of high-performance computing and state of the art predictive techniques in theoretical solid state physics.

The ideal candidate is highly dedicated and organized, with the ability to multi task in a fast-paced, diverse, and growing environment. A student that is presently pursuing an undergraduate university degree in Physics, Mathematical Physics, Material Science or related discipline is prefered. A combination of excellent analytical, mathematical and strong multi-platform programming skills is necessary. A background in theoretical solid state physics will be considered as a preferred asset. Eligible applicants must be Northern Ontario secondary school graduates 29 years of age or under currently enrolled in a co-op program at an accredited college or university.
