Thinkpath Engineering Services Ontario, Inc. (TESO) provides a variety of engineering services including design engineering, technical publications and professional placement services.

Our customer is a leader in providing nuclear automation equipment. They are seeking a Mechanical Designer to support their team in Peterborough on contract.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate will possess a post secondary education Diploma or Degree from a recognized Mechanical Engineering Technical Program, or have equivalent knowledge and experience of a good academic standing.

As a minimum you will be a Design Technologist with 5 years practical experience in the field of mechanical design.

Experience in mechanical design will include:
Proficiency in the use of 3D solid modeling software (preferably Solid Edge); experience in the use of 2D CAD software; the ability to perform effective requirement capture from the interpretation of technical specifications; development of concept designs and costs proposals; performing preliminary engineering calculations; producing bills of material; specifying or evaluating appropriate purchased components; production of detailed design drawings; preparing written technical documents, review of designs for accuracy, material selection and manufacturability.

Experience in the following areas is expected:
Manufacturing methods and representation of those on drawings and design documents including welding symbols and notations; gated design review process; material properties and the behavior of materials and structures under multiple load combinations.

Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
Special purpose machinery and tool design for nuclear applications; design-by-analysis using finite element software e.g. ANSYS; electrical device usage and control systems; pneumatics and hydraulics systems; welding procedures or specifications and associated Inspection techniques such as radiography, NDT or NDE; FEA principles and techniques; principles of fluid flow and heat transfer.

This is a challenging position that will require a solid mechanical design background and as the candidate will be working as part of a team, strong interpersonal and communication abilities including literacy skills are essential. Problem solving skills plus a creative yet methodical approach is also required.
