Progressive company to work forCustomer focused company that has expanded globally in the last three years
Bids Sourcing Specialist (Current Employee), Hanover Park IL – March 31, 2013
Pros: nice benefits
Cons: a 50+ hour work week for a salary employee is the norm.
Review of products requested on bids from schools across the US. I contact our suppliers or seek others to find what they are looking for.

I have learned about the nation STEM initiative that schools are introducing into their curriculum at the middle and high school level schools as an effort to increase the job preparedness for our future leaders

Wide – more... diversity of talent pool in our team.

Hardest part is keeping out name as no. 1 supplier in the industry when so many try to copy and do the same.

Most enjoyable is working with the dedicated professionals who work well together. – less

Management Style - laughable
CSR (Current Employee), Illinois – March 30, 2013
Pros: benefits start day one
Cons: management style- intimadation
Really like my coworkers, but management is p-o-o-r. Their style is to intimidate anyone that questions the validity of something. If you're not into brown-nosing, watch out!!!
I found it ironic how in the training it was preached how important soft skills are yet my manager sorely lacks this "necessary skill".
They talk about "coaching" to continue – more... customer satisfaction - been there a few months now and have yet to get any coaching at all except to talk about not using the BATHROOM outside of the 2, 15 minute breaks and lunch. My manager seems to enjoy being indignant by constantly speaking to me rudely and ridiculing me when I make a mistake, instead of telling me what I've done wrong and showing me how to do it right.
While in training for 3 months I found it interesting to hear the teacher tell very personal information about other coworkers while they were not in the room.
They talk a good talk but don't walk it. All I have to say is WATCH OUT. The welcome mat quickly rolls up! – less

The sheer size of Thermo Fisher allows for any person to acquire a position and climb the corporate ladder. With hundreds of locations globally it can provide a person with a successful career. Benefits are great. The key to success within Thermo Fisher is managing change. Acquisitions of new companies occur often and integration needs improvement. – more... Product Manager with Main Focus on Catalog Production
Product Manager (Former Employee), Vernon Hills, IL – March 6, 2013
Pros: proficientcy in catalog production.
Cons: lack of marketing budget for new programs.
The lion's share of Cole-Parmer's (division of Thermo Fisher Scientific) business has been through the mailing of their main catalog and supplemental "Featured Products" brochures. Unfortunately, going to market via the internet is not one of the company's strengths; and the reason for that is the cost associated with PPC programs and other "Customer – more... Loyality" promotions.

I learned a great deal about print publishing, but constantly was a proponent of internet marketing, including email blasts. Sooner or later the Marketing Plans I created will have the dust blown-off them, the programs will be executed, and the result will be additional market share. I wish them success in this endeavour, and since I still am in touch with numerous fellow Product Managers, I will one day hear about this success. – less

Too big for it's own good
Product Marketing Manager (Former Employee), Rochester, NY – February 13, 2013
I would not recommend working for Thermo Fisher Scientific to anyone I consider a friend. There are better places to invest your time and effort and my advice is pursue all other possibilities first.

The managers are typically not respectable, most are ladder climbers that are more interested in impressing their senior managers than improving their – more... performance and output.

Use the company for experience if you need it but don't expect to be appreciated. – less

Multi national company
Financial Accountant (Former Employee), Basingstoke – February 9, 2013
Pros: structured
Cons: inflexible
Being part of such a huge organisation has its pros in as much as there is much opportunity to work with colleagues across varying countries, cultures and backgrounds. On the other hand, however, you do wonder how your small contribution can make a difference! Watch out for workforce consolidations but seek to utilise the travel opportunities.

A terrible place to be employed.
Operations Manager (Former Employee), Bridgewater, NJ – February 8, 2013
Pros: there are no pros at thermo fisher.
Cons: way too many to list.
This is a horrible company go work for. They treat their employees with no respect. After the hurricane they had the entire crews working without ventilation in the building. In a chemical environment it is vital to have the proper ventilation. They had no regard for the employees. I was an operations manager there and I stood tall to protect my crew. – more... This is why they let me go. I tried everything in my power to protect my staff and the company resented it. – less

Electronic Technician (Current Employee), Coon Rapids, MN – January 26, 2013
Pros: worker productivity recognition with gift cards, informal work environment

Thermo Fisher has a good, open, informal working environment which is condusive to learning more about the company and getting help to improve productivity. Very happy working for Fisher Hamilton, great people, great wages and four blocks from my home.
Multi-Purpose Operator (Former Employee), Two Rivers, WI – January 10, 2013
Pros: advancement possibilities, worked with a great team, the company was open to suggestions to make work flow more productive and of course excellent wages.
Cons: pension plan taken, lost over time after 8 hours. worked 10 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week.
A typical day at work consisted of everyone working as a team to get quality products out in a timely manner. I learned every job I could to become a valuable asset to the company. Management was very good to me and gave me the freedom to step in anywhere there was a bottleneck to keep the lines and product running smoothly and efficiently. Co-workers – more... were for the most part easy to work with and cooperative. The hardest part of the job was when the steel plant workers had to transfer to the wood Pant and understandably they did not want to be there. We had to work harder to make up for the one's who didn't want to work at an efficient pace. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able excel, resolving issues that came up, changing programs on CNC machines to make part fit properly. Producing quality cabinets. Many of the workers and managers relied on my expertise and desire to excel which was very rewarding – less
