The Urban Puppy Shop, a dog specialty store and services facility, is seeking to hire a mature, hardworking and client-focused Manager to supervise the day-to-day operations of a 4500 sq ft facility. As winners of The Georgia Straight 2011, 2012 and 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards for “Best of Vancouver”, The Urban Puppy Shop has been credited by our clients for providing great care to their dogs. Your job as the Manager of our team of 20 staff will be to uphold our reputation for providing exceptional care of all dogs in our facility.

Responsibilities of the position as Manager include:

Plan, direct and evaluate daily operations
Ensure all clients of the Store receive excellent customer service at all times
Determine staffing requirements and maintain staff schedule; recruit, train, supervise and evaluate performance of all staff
Manage staff in supervising all dogs in the care of the store; address any concerns or medical emergencies related to the welfare of all dogs
Develop and implement marketing strategies
Prepare reports regarding sales volumes, staffing requirements and overall operations
Locate, select, and procure merchandise for resale; maintain effective relationships with store vendors; implement store merchandising strategies
Implement pricing strategies and quarterly sales promotions
Coordinate annual customer appreciation events and activities
Resolve any customer complaints

Requirements for the position include:

Minimum 5 years experience in effectively recruiting, training and supervising staff
Demonstrated success in managing multiple store operations; strong multi-tasking skills
Reputation for excellent customer service; a people person who thrives on establishing good customer relations
A passion for dogs; prefer experience in handling dogs although prepared to train the right person
Understanding of marketing principles and ability to develop marketing strategies; experience with using social media to enhance brand recognition and sales an asset
Experience with purchasing and price negotiation of retail product
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of weekdays and weekends; also availability to work during seasonal holidays.
A self-starter who can perform well in a busy and sometimes chaotic environment
