Technical Project Manager (volunteer role)

Based in Toronto, the Technical Project Manager is responsible for initiating, coordinating and monitoring technology-based projects for The Sentinel Project, including both strategic initiatives and the detailed development efforts of front-end and back-end developers. The Technical Project Manager will be required to meet project deadlines and goals, while providing regular status reports on The Sentinel Project’s technical portfolio, also acting as a strategic thought leader to help ideate new campaigns and platforms.

Key responsibilities:

Initiating, coordinating and monitoring a diverse portfolio of technology-based projects on web and social media platforms
Acting as the primary point of contact for projects across departments, and liaising with stakeholders inside and outside the organization
Applying best principles and technology industry standards to The Sentinel Project’s products and processes

Required skills:

Experience managing technology projects with aggressive timelines at a granular task level, ideally in a software or agency environment
Familiarity with waterfall and Agile project management processes
Experience estimating production effort and creating dependency-driven schedules
Familiarity both with general object-oriented programming principles and with physical/virtual web architecture (client/server, MVC, etc.)
Strong familiarity with usability principles and web standards
Exposure to task management platforms such as Trello, Pivotal, Basecamp or Jira

Preferred skills (nice to haves):

Although this role does NOT involve authoring code, some amount of previous hands-on coding experience is extremely beneficial
Some exposure to formal QA methodology (regression testing, test scenarios, automated load testing, etc.)
Exposure to mobile applications and social media platforms
Any level of formal education in project management
Wireframing tools, particularly Visio, Omnigraffle, Cacoo and Axure

Desired attributes:

Extremely detail-oriented with an attention to rigor and quality
Demonstrated involvement in the web, social media or mobile communities
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Knowledgeable about current technical trends and constraints
Enthusiastic about working in a collaborative team environment, but able to work independently on schedule
