The Technical Services Specialist uses the state of the art land survey equipment such as the Nikon DTM-500 series EDM, as well as XX GPS. They use sophisticated software and sub-surface sensors to navigate a drill bit towards a subsurface target using geomagnetic, electromagnetic and gravitation field measurements.
Job Duties

Manage field data and surveying

Directly responsible for the care and maintenance of steering equipment attached to the drill unit (sonde, sonde housing and remote and walkover receivers).

Direct the steering head over the length of the bore, going from entry to exit giving clear, concise direction to the driller by radio contact.

Responsible for recording “as you go” depths from the steering gear to the surface, as well as inclination and surface obstacles crossed (i.e. roads, creeks) every 4.57 meters (15’).

Responsible for exit side procedures and all radio communication with the drill during removal and setting of tooling, watching for drilling fluid returning to the exit pit, assisting contractor by stopping product installation (pull back) as needed.

Perform other duties as required

Requirements

Post secondary education combined with work experience.

Must have Class 1 Drivers License.

Understanding of basic electrical theory is an asset

Land surveying experience

Mathematical background with a strong knowledge in trigonometry and geometry

Excellent driving record

Knowledge of AutoCAD a definite asset

Strong communication skills with co-workers, clients and subcontractors; field documentation essential

Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge with Microsoft Excel and formulas

Knowledge of drill procedures, varied ground conditions, and support equipment used in Horizontal Directional Industry an asset.

This position requires travel 80-90% of the time.

Physically demanding terrain eg: walk up steep hills, slippery terrain etc.

Ability to encounter various elemental conditions, e.g. rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.
