Hybrid Controls Design & Test Engineer

Position Overview

The Hybrid Controls Design & Test Engineer will develop or modify vehicle diagnostic algorithms in order to achieve corporate and regulatory requirements. Algorithms designed in Simulink will focus on thermal & charging system management.

Job Description

  • Develop hybrid diagnostic control strategies that meet OBD and corporate requirements
  • Develop test and validation plans to confirm correct algorithm functionality
  • Develop project management plans and assess required resources
  • Create Matlab/Simulink models to achieve implementation of diagnostic strategies
  • Document control algorithm requirements and specifications
  • Utilize laboratory and vehicle test procedures to determine system performance and interactions
  • Help to create standardized analytical and physical test tools and measure system performance
  • Perform in-vehicle physical testing and analytical modeling of Hybrid Control systems
  • Participate in diagnostic certification testing and document the results
  • Participate in the development of ‘next generation’ system architectures
  • Manage and implement diagnostic system changes
  • Specify and balance system requirements (system and component)
  • Travel as required to utilize the companies facilities and participate in vehicle development (primarily to the companies facilities in the United States)
  • Communicate, coordinate, and consult with engineering departments and internal customers
  • Demonstrate vehicle performance of integrated controls systems
  • Provide technical leadership for advanced technology development
  • Perform complex design analysis (electrical and mechanical systems)
  • Lead and participate in DFMEA and DFSS projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Electrical, Controls, Computer or Mechanical engineering (controls focus) or equivalent training
  • Interest in automotive & hybrid system development
  • Experience with MatLab/SimuLink
  • Experience with control systems (design, implementation, experimentation)
  • Experience with algorithms (design, implementation, debugging)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within teams
  • Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license in good standings
  • Self-motivated
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in Electrical, Controls, Computer or Mechanical engineering (controls focus)
  • Four or more years’ experience in the field
  • Experience with vehicle simulation software and/or hardware in the loop tools
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools (d-Space, ETAS, etc.)
  • Experience with serial data communication (CAN)
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
