The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Division Special Events Coordinator, the Special Events Coordinator in Edmonton will be responsible for successfully executing all logistics related to our signature event The Walk to Fight Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis (JA) Family Days and third party events for the Edmonton and surrounding region. This individual will work with our revenue development team to secure sponsorships for the Walk and will develop unique features to attract participants making the Walk to Fight Arthritis an outstanding fundraising event. The successful candidate will assist communications staff to execute local marketing plans and will provide leadership and support to staff, walk committee members and volunteers keeping them engaged and motivated. He or she will organize, promote and host public information sessions to promote the Walk and will implement recruiting strategies to drive registration, participation and fundraising for the event. In addition, the Special Events Coordinator will oversee planning of Juvenile Arthritis (JA) Family days. He or she will work with rheumatology clinics to develop the program, recruit and train volunteers for the event and prepare and distribute related marketing materials. The incumbent will also steward and nurture any existing third party events and will seek out new third party event opportunities.

Required Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a university degree or diploma in event planning, fundraising or a relevant discipline with a minimum of two years event planning and/or fundraising experience within a fast-paced environment. Previous sales experience would be an asset. He or she will be highly computer literate with excellent Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge skills. The ideal candidate will have experience working within a budget and securing sponsorship for events. He or she is high energy, enthusiastic and proactive with demonstrated success motivating and stewarding volunteers, donors and third party fundraisers. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends will be required.
