Fun workplace
Merchandising Team Leader (Former Employee), Hyde, ENGSeptember 2, 2014
Pros: nice friendly place to work.
Cons: working nights 10pm to 7am
I enjoyed working at Tesco, my shifts started by going on workplan and organising the job roles for my colleges to complete that night. I learnt everything i could as a customer assistant and team leader. As with every supermarket job I was often asked to help out in all departments when my work load was complete. All staff on all levels were lovely – more... and hard working. – less

Customer Assistant (Current Employee), Bristol, ENGAugust 29, 2014
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: don't get paid for breaks, low contracted hours
Tesco is a great place to work if you're either a student or a working mum. If you aren't any of these, good luck finding enough hours to get by. They mostly operate on employing lots of staff with stupid hours such as Tuesday 13:00-16:00, Friday 18:00-22:00. This isn't helpful to anyone who wants to actually get on in their working life without the – more... support of an earning partner. Getting into management is also a joke, unless you have the 'right face' for the job nobody will help you progress and before you know it you're five years down the line and haven't moved an inch since day one. – less

Temporary Personal Shopper (Former Employee), Kingston ParkAugust 29, 2014
During my times working at tesco i enjoyed talking with other members of staff and appreciated their friendly attitude to each other and customers,
always happy to take part in a joke, but with great organisation so everyone knows what to do and when the hard work is needed.

Cashier (Former Employee), Bangor, NIRAugust 28, 2014
Pros: meeting people
Working as a cashier withing Tesco allowed me to majorly improve my customer service skills as quite often you ended up chatting to customers whilst serving them at the till. It definitely brightens up your day. Although responsibilities were fairly basic, keeping pace during busy periods certainly keeps you fit!

Having said that, if it is a quiet – more... period, time can start to drag but you'll grow to appreciate the odd mini-break here and there. Also if you're on a long shift, bring a cushion for you bum! – less

DotCom and Customer Assistant (Former Employee), shoreham by seaAugust 28, 2014
Pros: good pay
Cons: short breaks, management treat you rubbish
Tesco makes you work hours you don't want to if christmas or easter is coming up.

Work days drag on.

They make you feel easily replaced.

Colleagues are nice.

Management make your day worse.

Short lunches.

Temporary Checkout Assistant (Former Employee), Burnley, ENGAugust 28, 2014
While being a checkout operator over the busy Christmas period, I gained powers of concentration and was able to work under pressure.
I was also a major point of contact with the customer, therefore using politeness and communication skills were essential.

Customer Assistant (Current Employee), Saint Helens, ENGAugust 27, 2014
Pros: the amount of breaks
Cons: no overtime
Working at Tesco isn't the worst job in the world but at the same time i don't want to work there all my life. I've learned a lot while ive worked there mainly about people. A typical day for me would include filling the promotion ends and 3 isles then tidying up before the shop shuts for the next day. Sometimes if its busy i help with the checkouts. – more... I couldn't ask for better co-workers, they say were a team but on our department were a family! There isn't really a lot of things hard about my job as its fairly straight forward, i fill shelves. The most enjoyable part is the people i work with, they make it a lot easier and fun. – less
