No longer a viable company

When I started there five years ago,there was potential and movement within. With hard work and drive, one could move up and make a difference.
Now there is only middle management that blocks you at every turn, that looks out only for themselves.
Upper management isn't much better, with all lay offs and cut backs, a lot of very good people are gone.
Now all you have are the self serving narcissists preying on any good people left.

The best thing that could happen to this company, is to be bought out and dismantled.
There is value there but not as a whole.
Get rid of all the top brass and start fresh, from the owner down.

Fun, safe workplace, employee lounge at Calgary Head Office. Kitchens on each floor, with refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers.

The work environment is productive, and management appreciates hard work.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the challenge of answering different questions each day and helping to solve problems for people from across Canada and the U.S.A.

You will need to take a long view in order to see the fruits. Strategy changes often so it becomes hard to implement changes. Operations does not like to change and find it hard to adapt to fluid economic environment.

The current VP that runs the Production Servicies division is a complete disaster as Donald trump would say, he controls all aspects of the process from HR to Operations and Sales and if you don't report simple tasks directly to him he will melt down like a child. He has no vision or direction for this once proud division. He has gotten rid of all personnel that has questioned his decisions and continues to drive this once great company down. Way over his head!

No care for there employees/health/family/wellbeing, no balance between work and family, management is obviously new and uneducated and very immature. It seems that when it comes to social conflicts they tend to point the blame like children and leave the matter unresolved. If your planning on working for tervita I would suggest trying to get as much of a starting wage considering there are no raises. If your just starting in the work force I wouldn't look at tervita as a career possibility as for there is no room for advancement at lest not with a wage increase.

Management has no vision and doesn't care about employees. Most of the people are good to work with but the company is more concerned about bottom line and not keeping good staff. Office bullying, gossip, and rumors are the norm. One part of the office doesn't know what the other part is doing and there is no office morale.

Tervita was once profitable and growing, in the last few years mismanagement has driven the company into the ground. Repeated layoffs, foolish spending on expensive marketing during Stampede, recent cancellation of the employee RRSP matching, bad decisions are everywhere. Tervita is currently selling bonds at $10, in case the company survives they'll have to payout $100. The chances of survival without debt restructuring are ~ 10%, shareholders will lose money. Either bankruptcy or restructuring (probably bankruptcy) as the outcome. Employees are lucky the pensions are with a third party.

The Richmond office is an example of the inept management, a small group of ring-leaders harass and abuse underlings. Management carries on inappropriate relationships with staff, flirting during meetings, groping at xmas parties, and other bad behavior are more important than managing profitability and hard work. HR is a disaster-, if harassment is reported the complainant is promptly "laid-off" this is common. Bad behavior is rewarded, uneducated people call the shots, favouritism is the norm, back-stabbing, lying.... nothing is out of the question.

Did you ever think that more and more jobs are coming available because people are starting to realize that working for Tervita is like working in a TOXIC ENVIROMENT!! They promote safety but infuse
safety with discipline. You have no job security, with Tervita, there is no knowing whether your job will be there tomorrow or 6 months down the road. They are allowed to discharge your services based on anonymous reports of work habits that are based solely on biased discrepancies. If you choose to work for Tervita, do so with the knowledge that your position is temporary and can end at any time, with out prior notice, and with extreme prejudice.

All that can be said for Tervita, in head office is it pays the bills. Management (especially in Info Tech) has no bloody clue about staff management, their skills or how to manage people. It is even doubtful they even have a clue what the skills inventory of their staff are. They might if they ever bothered to ask. There is no salary increases in at least 2 years, layoffs, but wow have they got money to waste on consultants for work that; a) their management should have the skills, if not..hit the road. b) their staff could do if they knew what they had skills for or even invest in their staff.
Typical workday is keep head low, shut up, collect your paycheck. Oh and fight boredom.
Suggest not to work here if you expect honest management that truly care about you. If you like self serving, management that lies, has no focus, then this is certainly the place to be.
