Terrace Youth Residential Services are looking for experienced Child and Youth Worker. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Professional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner at all times.
  • Actively participates in staff meeting and offers input
  • Follows through on completing request from Director and the Supervisor
  • Sets and maintains professional boundaries with clients.
  • Record relevant information on resident Communication Page (consequences, appointment, etc) and all telephone calls in the communication book
  • Verbal communication is effective and professional
  • Is interested in developing professional skills through experience
  • Attends training sessions and is able to learn and implement new techniques
  • Has a positive attitude and represents the program in a professional and enthusiastic manner
  • Assist in arranging and participate in schedule activities and programs
  • Assign and follow through on consequences
  • Able to delegate responsibilities
  • Able to handle many responsibilities at once
  • Understands their role with clients and maintains professional boundaries
  • Represents the best interest of the agency, Advocating for clients and following the philosophy of the group home

Personal and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Attends appointments in a timely manner
  • Takes initiative and ensures that tasks are completed
  • Able to be non judgmental of staff members and creates a positive group dynamic, showing motivation and encouraging others to do the same
  • Is able to support staff team and demonstrate positive leadership skills
  • Is open to constructive criticism and utilizes supervisions and consultations with supervisors and directors
  • Communicates with team members during shifts and prior to shifts
  • Is flexible and able to adapt to change
  • Provides counselling and crisis intervention to clients
  • Encourages residents to make healthy life choices

Program Expectation and Responsibilities:

  • Complete request on a daily “To Do List”
  • Documents necessary information on daily logs
  • Act as an advocate for the residents
  • Is a stable presence in the residence and is accountable to staff team
  • Develop and maintain appropriate professional working relationships with the community agencies, professional organization, families and staff team
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures
  • Is reliable during a crisis
  • Offers support and direction to team members as necessary when on shift
  • Consults with team members on shift to ensure consistency and cohesiveness
  • Draw from personal experiences in a professional and appropriate manner
  • Encourages the participation of clients in recreational and clinical activities
  • Communicates with team members prior to and during shift
