Terra is a dynamic community based organization that responds to the issues and challenges that young people face related to pregnancy and parenting. For over 12 years the agency has been providing housing support to teen moms and young dads. Reporting to the Housing Coordinator, the Family Support Worker works with young families Terra serves that need assistance with issues related to housing. Responsibilities also include support for tenants at Hope Terrace, our 13 suite apartment building.

The Family Support Worker is a full time position (37.5 hours per week). This position works flexible hours to best meet needs of clients including evenings and weekends.

 Work directly and provide a wide range of individual, family and group support to tenants so they are effective parents and achieve successful independent living
 Promote and teach effective life and living skills which supports parents in meeting the needs of their family (budgeting, cooking, maintaining household)
 Meets all tenants in home minimally once per week to provide support and guidance regarding goals and independent living
 Provide housing support outreach services to students at Braemar School
 Develops opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and other methods of working cooperatively in the best interest of clients
 Serve as a liaison between caretaker and tenant to identify and resolve tenants issues
 Supports Coordinator in screening and assessing the suitability of potential tenants
 Collects outcomes, measures data and completes evaluation activities as required: ETO (Efforts to Outcomes) database

This position requires a self-motivated, resourceful individual who enjoys a progressive work environment and is a team player. The ideal candidate has:
 A diploma or degree in Social Work or a discipline directly related to human services
 Experience working with youth from a strengths based perspective
 Expertise in assessing client needs, developing short-term and long-term goals, and identifying appropriate community resources
 The ability to develop and deliver group programs that enhance basic life skills
 Strong group facilitation skills and ability to adapt programming as needed
 Solid communication skills that ensure effective communication
 Strong computers skills; previous experience using a database
 A personal vehicle to transport clients and children (class 5)

Successful Candidate will have completed:
 First Aid certificate
 Police Security Clearance (CRIM)
 Child Intervention Record Check (CWIS)
 Suicide Prevention
