Family Violence Prevention Centre

Edmonton John Howard Society (EJHS) is a community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.

The Family Violence Prevention Centre is recruiting a Community Outreach worker to provide support services to those impacted by family violence. The responsibilities of the Community Outreach Worker include developing non-judgemental and supportive relationships with people experiencing various types of family violence who want information and support. Outreach workers provide ongoing support, advocacy, linking clients with resources and supporting through civil court processes if required.


  • Provide risk assessment, safety planning and needs assessments
  • Provide ongoing intervention to assist those impacted by family violence to over come barriers to living free from violence
  • Provide ongoing support, advocacy and facilitating access to resources
  • Prepare documentation according to program evaluation requirements
  • Liaise with community referral sources
  • Participate in agency and community committees


  • Bachelor of Social Work degree (RSW preferred)
  • A related degree and experience may be considered
  • Thorough understanding of family violence dynamics and barriers
  • Minimum 2 years front line experience, preferably in delivery of family violence services
  • Experienced in risk assessment and safety planning
  • Experience working with diverse populations including aboriginal, ethno cultural and disabilities
  • Knowledge of housing and financial resources, immigration, legal, child and family services
  • Knowledge of Addictions and Mental Health issues is a valuable asset
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a valuable asset
  • Valid drivers' license and reliable transportation with 6A insurance coverage
  • Criminal record check and child welfare record check required
  • Valid First Aid
  • Ability to work within a team environment

The salary range is $35,000 to $36,800 including a comprehensive benefit package.

Hours of work
This is a 30 hours a week position. Tuesday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm
