TITLE: SLEEPOVER PROGRAM PRESENTER – Part-Time
Set up materials for sleepover programs (demonstration materials, group activities, etc.)
Greet and host the sleepover groups.
Present demonstrations and activities following the sleepover agenda.
Operate Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre equipment for live night sky and laser shows.
Operate the organization’s public Observatory and DOW Computer Lab at certain times.
Supervise the group on excursions to the exhibit galleries and other areas of TELUS World of Science.
Ensure the safety and well being of all sleepover participants.
Attend to any of the needs of the group participants.
At times must organize and coordinate sleepover meals for the group (dinner, breakfast, …)
Ensure sleepover areas are clean after the group departs.
Other duties as required.
Post secondary education in the sciences, engineering or education preferred.
Public speaking, teaching or theatrical experience.
A working knowledge of general science and astronomy a must.
Excellent public relations skills (related training preferred)
Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written English.
Must possess a high technical aptitude. Working knowledge of computers, audio and video equipment, etc. an asset.
Formal experience working with young children in a teaching environment.
Current First Aid and CPR certificate a must.
Note: A Security Clearance Check is a condition of employment for successful candidates. The check must be completed prior to commencement of work and is the financial responsibility of the candidate.
HOURS OF WORK: Friday or Saturday night from 5:30pm-Midnight and Saturday or Sunday Mornings from 8am-noon. Up to 15 hours week
SALARY: $16.29- $20.07 per hour as per 2010 Collective Agreement
