Role Description:
Pension and Benefits

  • Responsible for the investment performance monitoring, pension plan governance, regulatory filings in addition to regular administration of the pension plan
  • File all regulatory pension filings with FSCO
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reconciliation of all Pension, Post Retirement and Post Employment Pension Accounts
  • Assist in the accounting process such as preparation of the year end Pension Plan financial statements including notes disclosures
  • Administer flexible and core benefit programs
  • Recommend improvements to programs as required
  • Coordinate annual re-enrollment
  • Assist employees in resolving benefit concerns and pension issues
  • Ensure new hires receive benefit orientation and are signed into pension and benefit programs in a timely manner

Disability (STD/LTD) and Attendance Management

  • Ensure qualified applicants receive benefits in timely fashion
  • Communicate with applicants regarding status of their claims
  • Manage questionable and denied claims in a proactive and effective manner
  • Facilitate work hardening and modified return to work programs


  • Act in accordance with Provincial and Federal employment legislation
  • Monitor application of policy to ensure company wide consistency
  • Answer questions and provide interpretation and guidance to all employees
  • Complete special projects as assigned


  • Minimum University Degree in Human Resources or appropriate discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Pension/Benefits experience
  • Demonstrated experience administering a Defined Benefit Pension Plan and Flexible Benefits Plan required
  • Experience in Disability and Attendance Management an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills and interviewing skills
  • Strong Client Focus with high integrity and discretion to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrate desire to learn and take on more duties
  • Proven sound judgment and maturity
  • Analytical skills/ Detail oriented/ Aptitude with numbers
  • Systems knowledge preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and Provincial employment legislation
