Position: Assistant Editor / Videographer

Wage: $15/hour
Schedule: 30 - 40 hours/week

Job Summary
Mastermind Studios has a position opening for an eligible Career Focus youth candidate who is interested in the field of video editing, cinematography, advertising and documentary production and on-line video distribution. Training will be provided by the employer on most technical aspects of the job, but the successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and computer skills, a strong work ethic, and a professional demeanor.

As an assistant editor, the successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in the assistance of video editing and cinematography delegated to him/her under the supervisions of the producer, the director of photography (DOP) and the senior editor including: ingesting video footage, operating video equipment including the assembly of professional lighting, cameras and other performance enhancing equipment, editing video material, recording video footage, video titling, organizing appropriate music bedding and encoding and transcoding digital media.

Preferred or Recommended Post-Secondary Credential
A bachelor’s degree or post secondary diploma relating to video production, marketing, journalism or digital arts

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Cleaning, organizing and preparing video equipment
  • Ingesting and organizing footage
  • Operating video equipment/camera
  • Editing tasks and assemblies
  • Video titling/paperwork
  • Encoding and transcoding digital media
  • Archiving in maintenance of project files
  • Organization of music and stock footage, database and libraries

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Exceptional teamwork and customer service skills
  • Outstanding verbal, written and e-communication skills
  • Friendly disposition and team player who takes direction well
  • Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills – Windows, MS Office, Internet, etc.
  • Demonstrated comfort and ability learning and using new technologies

PRIORITY CONSIDERATION for candidates who possess the following:

  • Mac & PC hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledgeable in popular video codecs
  • Understanding of video terminology and work-flow
  • Familiarity with video encoding software
  • Familiarity with search data and online distribution platforms
  • Basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro or other video editing software
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe software

Skills to be exercised and/or developed by Career Focus employee

  • Cinematography skill development
  • Encoding and transcoding digital media knowledge
  • Proficiency in editing with computer software
  • Knowledge in video encoding
  • Strong time management
  • Proficiency in video titling, YouTube annotations and Meta data
  • Knowledge of technical operations

Other Information

  • Employer willing to train on technical aspects of the position
  • Some travel may be required from time to time
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be required depending on project
