Maintenance Shop Foreman

TJ’s Oilfield Contracting Limited is seeking to hire an experienced Foreman for its Maintenance Shop located at Janvier, Alberta.
Attractive and competitive compensation, commensurate to qualifications and work experience. This position will work a Rotation of Two Weeks Work followed by Two Weeks Break and the incumbent in this position will be provided bachelor living accommodation at the company’s residential facility at Anzac, Alberta for which the incumbent would also be eligible to receive one hour travel time per work day for commuting to work from Anzac to Janvier and back.
Reporting to the Fleet Manager/Operations Manager, the Maintenance Shop Foreman must effectively lead and manage the daily operations of the Maintenance Shop comprising of a team of approx. 10 individuals i.e. Heavy Duty Mechanics, Parts Coordinator and Labourers, and concurrently provide maintenance support to the project sites of the company.
Minimum of 5 years of prior experience as a Foreman in the maintenance of heavy duty construction and logging equipment e.g. Packer, Rock Truck, Bobcat Skid Steers, Loader, Dozer, Excavator, Highway Truck, Grader, Mulcher, Buncher, Delimber, Skidders etc.
Effective planning, organizing and implementation skills
Effective understanding of equipment maintenance and operational manuals
Support and train team in heavy equipment maintenance, operations, safety procedures and company’s best practices
Assign work to team based on optimum utilization of labour and parts
Regularly provide performance feedback to team members and conduct their performance appraisals
Regularly coordinate with the Project Management Teams to ensure timely and pro-active address equipment maintenance requirements
Effectively resolve equipment maintenance related issues on a timely basis
Plan and estimate material and workforce requirements to complete assigned work
Review and approve team’s daily time records for ensuring completeness and accuracy in line with the DTC records
Apply critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to equipment maintenance issues
Must possess strong leadership skills to effectively manage the assigned maintenance team
Possess effective communication skills
Possess ability to train, mentor and lead assigned maintenance team
Possess ability to work under tight deadlines, under pressure and stressful conditions
Responsible to ensure that the HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) standards of the company and the clients are met or exceeded
Strong safety orientation and diligent in pro-active identification and resolution of hazards and safety issues
Assist in incident investigations and coordinate with the HSE Department for the site and team
Conduct daily lead toolbox meetings with the team to cover activities planned for the day. Coordinate with the HSE Department to identify safety topics in advance for discussion.
Participate in writing of JHAs based on the scope of work and equipment/tools being utilized. HSE Department will assist and ensure that the OH&S requirements are met
Promote the Safety Management System and ensure that the team is filling-out the required competencies, documentation for implementing the safety protocol and ensuring an effective implementation of the mentorship program for the team
Ensure that the team is actively participating in hazard identification, equipment inspection and properly completing the required safety documentation
Lead by example to ensure rigorous safety orientation of the assigned team at all times
Take active part in worksite inspections and ensure that equipment and tools meet the OH&S and COR certification
Assist in the review and amending of SWP’s and SOP’s
Ensure that all the necessary required documentation has been reviewed by the workers and signed-off prior to beginning the tasks or new jobs
Any other task assigned by the Fleet Manager/Operations Manager
Experience and Education Requirements:
5 years heavy equipment maintenance experience as a Foreman, preferably in industrial construction equipment
Supervisory training is considered an asset
Minimum High School graduate. Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Diploma would be preferred or equivalent maintenance experience.
Safety ticket requirements (please note that only those applicants would be considered who possess at least the first five documents/safety tickets listed below, copies of which must be attached along with the Resume/Application):
1. Valid Driving Licence (minimum Class 5) with clean Driver’s Abstract.
2. CSTS (On-line course “Construction Safety Training System” preferable by Alberta Construction Safety Association).
3. Enform H2S Alive (Classroom training by Enform, H2S Awareness is not acceptable).
4. Standard First Aid Course (Classroom training of two days).
5. Ground Disturbance Level II (Classroom training only by Global Training Centre, Learn Rite Courses Inc., Astec Safety Inc. or Alberta Construction Safety Association, please note that On-line course of Ground Disturbance Level II is not acceptable).
6. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System). In case the applicant does not possess the WHMIS ticket, then the WHMIS Training can be provided during the TJ’s Orientation upon hiring.
7. TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods). In case the applicant does not possess the TDG ticket, then the TDG Training can be provided during the TJ’s Orientation upon hiring.
