TJ’s Oilfield Contracting Limited is seeking to hire an experienced Civil Construction Foreman for one of its project sites located in the Christiana Lake area (approx. 120 KM south of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. This position is project based, rotational travel is required.

Reporting to the Project Supervisor / General Foreman, the incumbent must lead the daily operations in large scale earthworks construction project with a workforce of approx. 25-30 personnel.
Effective planning, organizing and implementation skills
Working knowledge of ground disturbance procedures and policies
Possess a good understanding of survey and grade stakes
Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine construction requirements and to plan procedures and methodology
Possess extensive experience in heavy equipment operations and maintenance
Support and train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, and company’s best practices
Assign work to employees based on material and worker requirement
Regularly provide performance feedback to crew members
Coordinate with the Project Supervisor/General Foreman Superintendent to effectively resolve civil construction related issues on a timely basis
Plan and estimate material and worker requirements to complete assigned work
Review and approve crew’s daily time records are complete and ensure that accurate time is recorded at the end of each shift in line with the LEMs
Apply critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to civil construction issues
Must possess strong leadership skills to effectively manage the assigned construction crew
Possess effective communication skills
Possess ability to train, mentor and lead assigned construction crew
Possess ability to work under tight deadlines, under pressure and stressful conditions
Responsible to ensure that the HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) standards of the company and the clients are met or exceeded
Strong safety orientation and diligent in pro-active identification and resolution of hazards and safety issues
Assist in incident investigations and coordinate with the HSE Department /Field Safety Advisor at the project.
Conduct daily lead toolbox meetings with their crew to cover activities planned for the day. They can coordinate with the HSE Department/Field Safety Advisor to identify safety topics in advance for discussion.
Participate in writing of JHAs based on the scope of work and equipment/tools being utilized. HSE Department/Field Safety Advisor will assist and ensure that the OH&S requirements are met
Promote the Safety Management System and ensure that they are filling-out the required competencies, documentation for implementing the safety protocol and ensuring an effective implementation of the mentorship program for their crew etc.
Ensure that their crew are actively participating in hazard identification, equipment inspection and properly completing the required safety documentation
Lead by example to ensure rigorous safety orientation of the assigned crew at all times
Take active part in worksite inspections and ensure that equipment and tools meet the OH&S and COR certification
Assist in the review and amending of SWP’s and SOP’s
Ensure that all the necessary required documentation has been reviewed by the workers and signed-off prior to beginning the tasks or new jobs
Any other task assigned by the Project Supervisor / Civil Construction Management Team
Experience and Education Requirements:
8 years heavy equipment experience with a minimal of 3 years as a Civil Construction Foreman in heavy civil construction projects, preferably in industrial construction within the oil sands
Supervisory training is considered an asset
Minimum High School graduate. Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology would be preferred or equivalent in field experience.
