Hard work with poor management
Home Health Aide (Former Employee), Setauket-East Setauket, NYJuly 29, 2014
Pros: worked closely with nurses
Cons: poor pay and benefits, inconsistent management
Care for 5-6 dementia patients on a locked floor, including ADL's, feeding, exercising, and re-orientating. Learned to care for disabled adults and worked closely with nurses. Management was poorly trained and did not consistently manage workers. Co-workers ranged from excellent to insolent. Hardest part of job was inconsistent management and watching – more... residents grow weaker and die. Most enjoyable part was feeling of achievement when a resident did well or when family members gave compliments. – less

Working with Alzheimers and Dementia patients is very challenging
Caregiver (Former Employee), Palm Springs, CAJuly 22, 2014
Pros: helping the elderly and benefits
Cons: job was taken over by new management company
Providing care for the elderly I learned new things. Every day patients depending on me to provide care that they need for every day life. I enjoyed making a difference in someone life. You have to have a lot of patience to work with the elderly. Every day is not the same.

Great Learning Experience
Licensed Practical Nurse (Current Employee), Rocky River, OHJuly 22, 2014
A typical day of work provides the greatest learning experience for new and upcoming nurses. Management has an open door policy. The hardest part of the job is not being there enough. The most enjoyable part is being there is seeing the nursing process in play for real life experiences and learning different companies protocol.

Highly stressful environment with little support and very poor management
Department Coordinator (Former Employee), Newtown Square, PAJuly 16, 2014
Pros: great budget, high standards, excellent training
Cons: very demanding job, little support, poor management, and high turnover
Sunrise as an organization (and at the corporate level) is a leader in the senior living industry and wants the best for its residents and employees. They have very high standards and many quality initiatives or "signatures" as they are referred to (although some are unrealistic and very difficult to maintain without a true team effort), are very policy-oriented. – more... and provide excellent training. They have significantly improved their operations in recent years, but have a ways to go to truly be the employer of choice.

However, this particular community (Newtown Square, PA) is absolutely horrific, with very low census, high turnover (particularly with department heads/coordinators), a very weak and inept Executive Director and fractured management team, a highly stressful environment with little support when it really is needed, low employee and resident morale, and a building that needs some major cleaning and upkeep,

I would strongly advise anyone who is considering a position at this particular Sunrise community to STAY AWAY and save yourself from a miserable and agonizing work experience!! – less

Stressful, No team work, poor management
LPN Medication Manager (Current Employee), Newtown Square, PaJuly 8, 2014
Pros: most residents appreciate hard workers
Cons: poor support
I love my residents and many of my co-workers but Sunrise Newtown square is not a good place to work. They work you like a dog and pay you peanuts. You don't stop from the time you clock in until the time you clock out which by the way you NEVER clock out on time. Management does not appreciate all the hard work they say they need to stop overtime. – more... The director uses the terms "make residents" do this or that and "because I'm the boss I can do what I want" including having socials where she enjoys consuming plenty of alcohol. The moral sucks – less

A great place of caring and support of our senior populatioin
Care-giver Supervisor/Med (Former Employee), Springfield, VAJuly 7, 2014
Pros: getting to take them on outings
Cons: there really weren't any
Sunrise Assisted Living is a great place to experience and share the love and care level for our senior population. It is a gratifying place to work! A typical day was greeting each resident and exchanging hugs. Helping them to bathe, dress and mobilize for their day which always began with a great and hearty breakfast prepared by the culinary staff. – more... I learned that hey could do much more for me than I could ever do for them, but I truly enjoyed trying, especially when someone who hadn't walked in weeks walked for you. Management was caring and wanted each day in the life of a resident to be a step forward. The co-workers were of the same mind and worked toward the same goal, which was to enhance the life of every resident they serviced. The most enjoyable part of the job was when a family member expressed their gratitude for a positive moment that was expressed or was evident in the life of their parent, or other family member. The hardest part of the job was not showing sadness toward a resident who never had a visitor while experiencing their observance of other resident friends go off for the day with their family and friends. The most enjoyable part of the day was listening to the stories they would tell of their life long experiences or the huge smiles on their faces, while playing a game, when they would remember the answer to a question, or receive an unexpected gift for winning the game. But most of the time, everyone who played received something at the end of the game. – less

Pros: benefits
Cons: short breaks
The Benefits were amazing. Great Company to work fI worked for Sunrise Senior Living as the Business Office Coordinator. My Responsibilities were assisting residents and family members with any questions and concerns in regards to services & billing. I also was responsible for Human Resources from interview process to hiring and thereafter. I answered – more... and transferred call on a switch board of 7 lines. I assist my Executive Director with administrative duties as well. I have worked with this company for 6 years. While working with them I have learned the importance of being a team player and how to give great customer service with a smile.or. – less

LPN/Medication care Manager (Former Employee), Edgewater, NJJuly 4, 2014
Pros: the residents
Cons: low pay, terrible executive director, and horrible employees
The management is horrible and the women that work there are even worst. Best part of the job was the residents that lived there but overall horrible work environment! Everyone is underpaid for the amount of work you are expected to do. ALWAYS understaffed. stay far away

Assisted Living Facility
Care Manager (Current Employee), Parma, OHJune 19, 2014
a typical day at Sunrise, is coming in at 7am, waking residents up, getting them dressed and ready to come to the dining room for breakfast. serving them breakfast, cleaning up after breakfast, showers, toileting, ect.. I've learned time management is very important, team work is essential. management seems like their in their own world, they don't – more... communicate with the care givers enough to provide the correct care for our resident. I really enjoy working for Sunrise because most of the residents appreciate what you do for them and seeing them smile when you do small things, like brush their hair just how they like it. its really rewarding caring for people. – less

Care Manager (Former Employee), Columbus, OHJune 11, 2014
Pros: fun, friendly
Cons: very fast pase
This is an assistant living home where residences are assisted with all activities of daily living based on their need. There is also a memory care unit for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia. I learned the importance of time management while working with this coming. I loved most of my co workers. We always laughed, joked and smiled on a – more... daily basis. The hardest part about this job was when we had a falloff at the last minute and really had to move fast to stay on time. The most enjoyable part of this job was all the interesting residence I had the privilege to take care of. – less

We have a challenging work place sometimes and enjoyable place.
Lead Care Manager (Reminiscene Department) (Current Employee), Palo Alto, CAJune 9, 2014
Pros: we have only free food if we have monthly meeting
Cons: we have a short breaks of 10 mins every 2 hrs of our shift.
A typical day in my work just first thing on my shift I read my assignment paper and check my residents. I learn a lot on my work, I know how to deal elderly people especially those who have Dementia and Alzheimer's and how to gain trust in your residents, I know how to manage my time , and to get along with your co-workers,the hardest part when we – more... have a short staff, and the most enjoyable part when all you team work together as a team and if you like what you are doing. – less
