About Sunrise Medical

Sunrise Medical wants its customers to greet the day on a roll. The company manufactures and supplies wheelchairs and wheelchair accessories, and replacement parts. Its Quickie wheelchairs range from manual to motorized, adult to child-sized, and from everyday use to sports models for athletes. Its products are targeted for use in both institutional – more... and home use. Sunrise Medical also makes Jay brand cushions and wheelchair backs. The company's A.R.T. division designs and manufactures custom configured seating and positioning equipment. Sunrise Medical markets its products in about 100 countries around the globe through an inside sales force and through distributors.

Sunrise Medical also provides businesses services that include consulting on Medicare reimbursement, financing options such as lease programs, and training.

The company has been owned by Vestar Capital Partners for the past decade and during that time its owners have switched its focus from growing through acquisitions to slimming down in order to focus on its core mobility offerings.

Over the past several years, Vestar has spun off former business units Joerns Healthcare, DynaVox (speech-output machines), and DeVilbiss Healthcare. All three of the companies remain Vestar investments, but aren't part of Sunrise Medical anymore. Sunrise Medical sold its Guardian living aids product line in 2008 to Medline Industries.

In 2009 Thomas Rossnagel became CEO of Sunrise Medical, replacing Michael Cannizzaro, who stayed on as chairman. Rossnagel has been with the company for more than 10 years and was promoted from the post of managing director for Sunrise Europe.

Rossnagel plans to continue to focus Sunrise Medical's operations on its lines of power scooters and wheelchairs, as well as its seating and sports products. – less
