A growing oil and gas company with a stellar reputation is currently looking for Purchaser for our Fort McMurray location. The Purchaser plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the activities of the purchasing and shipping receiving department.



  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the purchasing activities of the company
  • Develop purchasing policies and procedures and control purchasing budget
  • Source and obtain price quotations from catalogues and suppliers and prepare purchase orders
  • Identify best vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies to suit the needs of the company and establish new vendor accounts
  • Evaluate cost and quality of purchased equipment or materials (in consultation with site managers)
  • Prepare requisition orders to replenish needed materials, equipment and stock
  • Review requisition orders for accuracy and verify that materials, equipment and stock are not available from current inventories
  • Calculate cost of orders and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts
  • Contact suppliers to schedule deliveries and resolve shortages, missed deliveries and other logistics issues
  • Prepare and maintain purchasing files, reports, and price lists
  • Monitor inventory levels as materials, equipment, and stock are issued, transferred within company sites using inventory system
  • Compile inventory reports, recording the quantity, type and value of materials, equipment or stock on hand
  • Maintain stock rotation and dispose of and account for outdated stock
  • Enter data for production scheduling, stock replenishment/relocation and inventory adjustments
  • Reconcile physical inventories with computer counts
  • Assess requirements of sites, in consultation with the location managers, and develop specifications for equipment, materials and supplies to be purchased
  • Recommend suppliers and vendors to senior management
  • Establish logistics of delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact internal personnel or suppliers to resolve problems
  • Review and process claims against suppliers
  • Assemble containers and crates, record contents manually or by computer, pack goods to be shipped and affix identifying information and shipping instructions
  • Oversee loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances
  • Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods
  • Unpack, code and route goods to appropriate storage areas
  • Maintain internal, manual or computerized record-keeping systems
  • Load, unload and move products and construction materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment from transportation vehicles, loading docks, and within the shop to and from work areas
  • Perform other material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking


  • Completion of High School required
  • Ability to use and maintain a computerized inventory system required
  • Safety Tickets required: OSSA, CSTS
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Previous experience in a purchasing and/or experience with Heavy Equipment or Fleet Vehicles would be considered an asset
  • Completion of purchasing management would be considered an asset
  • Completion of production and inventory management would be considered an asset
  • Excellent customer services skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Overtime required as needed
  • Ability to drive in sometimes poor winter driving conditions
