Importance of engineering dept.
Journeyman/Red Seal Welder (Former Employee) –  Calgary, ABSeptember 30, 2015
A huge part of this companies struggle revolves around the notion that the engineers are untouchable, even when they produce 'prints with such obvious follies as 19' minus 2" is 17 feet!

It is not. The right answer is 18' 10".

When slights like this as an example are a continuous source of delays & re-works no company's success will come easily, which it already does not in our present day economical challenges.

Poor management only served to expedite over 20 lay-offs that i knew about, & the complete collapse of their night shift.
Pros
great problem solving team
Cons
questionable engineering dept.

Good company that went downhill fast...
Journeyman Welder (Former Employee) –  Calgary, ABMay 12, 2015
Great company to work for once upon a time but when things in their USA locations slowed down (Canadian location was still booming) they shipped all our work to those locations and laid off the Canadian employees instead. Quite disappointing.
Pros
Good wage, supplied coverals and consumables.
Cons
USA based company, keeping their US employees in mind before the Canadian ones.

Mechanic (Former Employee) –  Calgary , AbFebruary 9, 2014
A lot has changed at S&S since they took over from Crown Ind. I worked there for a short period of time (laid off) . But knew about the company for may years. And while being employed at S&S I saw people were being lay off all the time . There is very little job security.
I would recommend looking for employment else where.
Pros
not much
Cons
lock your tools

this shop is a great place to learn to hone your skills, there is little room for advancement into a leadership role.
