No respect for new guy.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Toronto, ON – February 21, 2013
Cons: treated like cheap labour
This place shows no respect for the "new guy". They are more focused on sales then customer satisfaction. They are willing to lie for it. If you value your dignity, do not work for staples.

Fun place to work but like most workplaces fake
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee), Mississauga, ON – January 28, 2013
Pros: free lunch on occasions, good benifits, good discount, good customers
Cons: customers who are rude just 'cause, management has favourites
I like my co-workers. If it wasn't for them I don't think I would still be there. When work is slow its nice to have a joke with them and chat. When it's busy - too busy. Well then that's when this job sucks. They make you work 44 hours because they can. Don't even asks if we
want to, because they don't have to.

Advancement is OK if you apply they – more... will consider you, but they do play favorites.Which if you are a good worker and good at what you do, it means you stay in that position while the noobs move on.

If customer service is something you want to get into then this job is a great test. The customer's think you are their slave - call you for things they can find out themselves with a little Google search or reading the first page of the product manual. You also have the veterans who know the deal. They are prepared - in and out in less then 5mins, they are friendly. you'd be surprised how many people call and are rude FOR NO REASON. You get the bimbo chick you sounds like she's in her early to mid 20's and acts like she owns you. Like their day isn't going so well so yours shouldn't either.

My biggest peeve. If your 1 minute late your late and you will hear about it.

Overall, if its not too busy its a nice place to work, nice people who at least pretend to care and that makes the work day go by fast. – less

Productive and fun workplace, with a nice family feel between the associates. Managers are down to earth, yet professional.
Sales Consultant (Current Employee), Windsor, ON – January 9, 2013
Pros: customer interaction
Cons: not enough work hours available
Greeting, meeting customers, seeking out what they need and then showing the good, better, and best option. Learned not to prejudge someone and their buying ability. Management is down to earth and yet very professional. Co-workers like their job and show it, some work harder than others, but most pull their own weight. Customers who treat you unlike – more... a human being. Customers who have that look of being very satisfied with the solution(s) that you showed and/or sold them. – less

Cons: short hours, minimum wage

Moral is down, company is outdated
Category Specialist (Former Employee), Richmond Hill, ON – January 1, 2013
Pros: 9 to 5, cafteria and gym onsite
Cons: stress, little chance for promotion, salary not competitive
I worked for 9 years in corporate office location.
It used to be great family oriented company, but when the US started to notice sales falling in their country it greatly impacted us.
Instructuring, more work, less promotions. The moral is down and stress increased.
They don't care about the people anymore, more concerned with making sales and keeping – more... the company afloat in a dieing office supplies industry.
No promotions or very little chance for advancement.
They make up titles so they don't have to compete with industry standard job title salaries. – less

Staples has been an excellent company for me to enhance my skill set in the area of management
Business Support Manager (Current Employee), Okotoks, AB – December 11, 2012
My time at work is spent learning to juggle the ongoing issues of creating great customer service, assisting the staff in getting product out of locked locations.

Weekly tasks and duties include the hiring and dismissing staff. Scheduling and reviews. Overseeing all of the business aspects regarding daily cash counts, COD accounts, receiving and shipping.

I – more... have truly enjoyed working with the staff and developing very strong manager/employee relationships.

As Staples delves further into the selling of Apple product and warrenty I find it harder to maintain the computer skills that is now required by the company. Selling of electronics has become the focal point. – less

Excellent starting position
❸ Customer Service Rep. and Sales Area Associate (Former Employee), Edmonton, AB – December 9, 2012
Pros: friendly coworkers
Cons: not enough responsibility given, and financial reimbursement of time was not competitive.
Helpful management, but not really a fulfilling job. Not enough responsibility passed onto staff, and no furthering of the job was possible. At the same time, there were no further opportunities for students at the part time level that I had wanted.

Unstable work place, negative environment
Customer Service Associate (Former Employee), Sault Ste. Marie ON – December 6, 2012
Pros: received discounts on products
Cons: negative atmosphere, no job security
Was bounced around between cashier, customer service, isles, and stocking. Sales at store became bad and part-time workers suffered due to cut back on shifts and hours. My fellow co-workers that I'm still friends with now, didn't enjoy their time with the company either.

- Fill and replace stock and am responsible for merchandising
- The co-workers were great, always willing to help each other out

Nobody is perfect, but my management sure was close
Supervisor of technology department (Current Employee), Ottawa – November 15, 2012
Pros: great management
Cons: the pay is barely above minimum wage
I started at Staples when I was young, and my managers helped me grow as both an individual and as an employee. They are the nicest group of managers you could ever hope to have. The best part of my job was knowing that when you go to work, you have a group of people who genuinely care for you as a person, not as a coworker.

Excellent workplace
Sales Representative (Current Employee), Toronto, ON – November 15, 2012
A typical day at work is all about dealing with customer inquiries and making sure they are met to the fullest. i have learned many things in this area such as dealing with upset customers but making sure that you leave them with a satisfied service. The management is great and comprehensive, they are team members at well and they don't treat anybody – more... differently. The hardest part of the job is having to deal with customers who are rude and impatient but still having to deliver the same service you would give someone who is cheerful and polite. The most enjoyable part of the job is having a fantastic group of people to work with and that makes everything about the job more enjoyable. – less
