Stantec is diverse. Stantec is very involved in growing as a company. There is a great work place culture. The most enjoyable part of the job is the relationships with co workers.

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB22 February 2017
Loved working for Stantec, great people, lots of great perks for the staff. I would have loved to stay working there except for the downsizing of the departments so thought it was time to look for another job.

Transmission Line Designer (Former Employee) –  Burnaby, BC19 February 2017
It's standard 7.5 hours per day. I've explored multiple disciplines, from substation, distribution and transmission lines. It's a very friendly work place. People are willing to teach and to be mentor for young and junior beginners. I've practiced my engineering in depth through a variety of projects, meanwhile learnt project management skills. Trained myself to be adaptive and competent during the short time for multiple discipline tasks. Be confident when encounting new untouched situation and projects.

Senior Instrumentation Engineer (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB19 January 2017
The best part was the encouragement of physical exercise through annual physical/bio check and mobile activity pedometer.

Pros

Average.
Senior Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Alberta10 January 2017
Culture is very relaxed. The biggest surprise is how such a large organization is really just a bunch of independent business units with fragmented systems, procedures and management styles. Stantec has grown through numerous acquisitions. Company lacks solid project management systems/tools but they are in the process of implementing something. It really comes down to individual employees and whether you can collaborate with them. Hardest part of the job for a PM is being responsible for everything and having little control over things like functional teams, quality of product, lack of systems and enforcement of policies. The managers and business developers seem to have the most fun as they are not having to deal with lack of systems to get the job done.
Pros
Relaxed work environment, flexible work hours.
Cons
Lacking formal systems and procedures.

Senior Pipeline Engineer (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB8 November 2016
Fairly easy-going laid-back atmosphere in which to work. They provide everything you need to do the tasks you're assigned, plus a number of perks in the office (fancy coffee machines, gym, nice lunchrooms, computers/smart-boards in the meeting rooms, etc.).

The people are always willing to help, and generally very friendly and approachable.
Pros
Depth and breadth of knowledge and experience
Cons
Difficulty scaling down processes for smaller projects
