Position Summary

The Director of Finance is a member of the senior management team and responsible for ensuring that the full range of tasks required at the strategic and tactical level of a Finance Department is met to support two (2) medium size corporations. This position will have an analytical focus and produce financial management information to support decision making at the Governance and senior management level, support the creation of resource development/revenue generating opportunities to build capacity to offer program and services, and liaise with various levels of government, community service agencies and non-profit sector health service providers to plan and report on programs and services geared to older adults in the community.

Position Specification

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance will be an innovative, collaborative and visionary leader, with strong strategic agility, analytical, solution-oriented, planning, and results-orientation competencies. The ideal candidate will be detailed-oriented and have successfully led the operations, people, strategy and change for a Finance Department of a not-for profit healthcare or community services organization. Experience reporting to public funders such as the Ministry of Health – Local Health Integration Network (MHO -LHIN) and City of Toronto will benefit the successful candidate to effectively and efficiently allocate and manage funding for the needs of seniors.

Candidates will hold a CA, CMA, CPA or CGA designation and/or related education in business and must be proficient in English. Proficiency at the advanced level for Microsoft Office is required and experience using accounting software.

Key Deliverables

The successful candidate for the Director of Finance is responsible for the following ongoing key deliverables:
o Provides Financial Management and Accounting oversight to all organizational business functions.
o Report on the Analysis of Financial Indicators and provide recommendations to support decision making and the strategic plan for the organization.
o Prepare and support the development of Financial Statements and performance for funders and for year-end audit.
o Lead the Annual Budgeting process for the organization.
o Review and Develop Business Case for Resource Development to support the organization’s short and long term plan.
o Support the Payroll function.
o Review and provide recommendations on Reserve Funding and Capital Planning
o Liaise with external service providers such as the organization’s, financial institutions, insurer, auditors and funders.
o Support the organization’s Succession Plan and Learning Culture by developing the organization capacity and build talent within the Finance Department through mentoring, coaching and on- the- job training opportunities.
o Report quarterly and at year end to the MOH- LHIN on M-SAA (Multi-Sector Accountability Agreement), MIS ( Management Information System)Trial Balance Submissions, SRI (Self -Reporting Initiatives), Community – ARR (Annual Reconciliation Report); the Ontario Secretariat for Seniors EPC-APER (Elderly Person Centered- Annual Program Expenditure Report) , and the City of Toronto Social Housing AIR ( Annual Information Return).
