The SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER is responsible for the leading the design, maintenance and coding of software within the Squirrel Point of Sale systems.

The developer is also responsible for working on bugs and issues that are discovered by our clients by acting as the Tier 4 escalation point. The Senior Software Developer leads the investigation into designs and bugs and provides constructive and meaningful feedback to the larger team with a quick turnaround. Being on call for high criticality issues will be necessary.

The developer will be working with a larger team and will act as the mentor for Junior and Intermediate Software Developers. The Senior Software Developer is expected to research and evaluate new technologies and tools, and champion useful methodologies.


Lead the analysis and creation of design documentation
Design and implement quality software by applying sound development practices
Perform unit tests and integrate software components based on specifications
Lead the review of requirements, design, code and QA test cases
Collaborate with QA, product management, documentation, marketing, support and implementation team
Provide technical subject matter expertise and technical leadership
Act as Tier 4 support for customer related issues
Assist with client issues and bug escalations in a timely fashion
On call work might be required based on a preset schedule.
Travel to a client site might be required


Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Excellent teamwork and proven ability to influence cross-functional teams
Self-directed and ability to work with others
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills in the English language
9+ years of experience with Visual C++
Experience with Java, .Net C#, SQL and XML is preferred
Experience with coding/standards for "real time software" preferred
5+ years of experience with MS SQL 2005 and MS SQL 2008
Understanding of design patterns
Excellent knowledge of software development methodologies and modern best practices
Experience programmatically reading and writing to SQL
Experience with TCP/IP socket programming preferred
Experience with Message interpretation and processing preferred
Experience with Microsoft development tool sets - Visual Studio
Experience with Java development tool sets - Eclipse, NetBeans
Experience with test driven development (NUnit, JUnit etc)
Knowledgeable of Microsoft operating systems XP, Server 2008, Windows 7
Work with technical and non-technical internal and external persons
Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to mentor junior team members
