Sprague-Rosser is seeking an experienced Survey Lead to support our projects abroad but based out of our corporate office in Edmonton, AB. The Survey Lead is responsible for the coordination of survey activities over multiple project sites. In addition to providing direction to the survey teams, the Survey lead is responsible for working with Project Managers, Estimating, and clients to provide data, 3D modeling, drawings and other survey metrics.
*Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation;
*Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain;
*Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features;
*Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and site personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects;
*Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS);
*Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures;
*Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles;
*Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments;
*Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed;
*Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys;
*Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features;
*Search legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed;
*Train assistants and helpers, and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps;
*Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites;
*Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents;
*Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements;
*As necessary, adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy;
*Conduct a broad range of field surveys, including non-legal boundary, topographic, design, volumetric, preliminary planning, control and construction.
*Accurately recording measurements and other data, preparing field notes, quality control for survey work, and compiling and computing data;
*Provide as-built drawings, 3D modeling and other required data based on findings;
*Coordinate survey teams on all sites;
*Manage survey staff and schedules based on project needs;
*Work with the Estimating department for surveying needs as required for bids.
*Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering OR:
*A Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma OR;
*An equivalent combination of education and experience;
*A minimum of seven (7) years of field experience in surveying & geomatics;
*A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a survey foreman or supervisor;
*Advanced level of competency with survey modeling software;
*Able of prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to audiences with and/or without a technical background;
*Must have strong written and oral communication skills;
*Must have strong analytical skills and high attention to detail;
*Advanced level of competency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
