Sprague-Rosser is seeking an experienced PROJECT CONTROLS LEAD based out of our Head Office in Edmonton.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in developing, establishing and maintaining the company’s project cost /control systems
  • Assist the project team in setting up the project cost code, the project baseline Budget and Setting up projects in Explorer
  • Monitor and audit the project performance and ensure that all the project control system is properly implemented
  • Train the project team on how to implement the quantity management procedures
  • Participate in presenting and explaining the Sprague-Rosser project control system to the company’s personnel and to the clients
  • Develop a Sprague-Rosser project control manual
  • Provide Sprague-Rosser management team with all the required project control summary reports
  • Train the new hires in the areas of project controls.
  • Train the project managers /project coordinator on how to use the project forecast utility and review the monthly project forecast reports
  • Review the project contract and ensure that all the contract conditions (invoicing, reporting and all related issue) are applied and fulfilled when setting up the project
  • Participate in setting up the cost code structure of the project (i.e. accounting codes)
  • Participate in/supervise setting up project information and cost codes in explorer
  • Supervise the coordination between estimating and site ensuring that the project control system is properly implemented
  • Supervise the change management system by making sure that the project staff understands the system and how the changes should be managed and tracked on site
  • Ensure that the site staff/crew understands the cost code structure of the project and that they are charging their expended hours to the right cost codes
  • Review and analyze the project control reports (i.e. progress and productivity) with the project team, and suggest corrective actions to maintain reasonable (around 1-PF) performance/productivity
  • Review and analyze the project scheduling and cost reports and suggest corrective actions to maintain the project within anticipated cost and schedule
  • Prepare and update project cash flows
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate project control specialists
  • Participate in the hiring process of new project control specialists


  • University degree in Engineering or Business; or Technical Diploma; or equivalent experience
  • Certified Cost Engineer / Consultant designation or Project Management Professional
  • Industrial and civil project experience
  • Experience in project controls, contract administration and construction management
  • Experience with Work Orders and Project Accounting modules
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera and MS Project
  • Requires sound problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
  • A self-starter who has the ability to work individually and within a team setting
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal are required
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize workload, bring issues forward and develop working relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
