Reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Administration, the Health & Safety Officer will provide technical expertise and practical support in the field of Occupational Health and Safety.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Act as the champion for the Health and Safety program to ensure compliance to legislation, accountability for company audits/inspections, effectiveness, and the development and maintenance of all related programs and documentation
Assist in the development and implementation of project & site specific HSE plans
Play an active role in safety meetings, audits, hazard assessments & PSI’s
Undertake regular safety inspections and document / report findings and ensure the level of quality and effectiveness of safety procedures on site
Assist with the enforcement of PPE /safety device use and maintenance
Develop and instruct safety training sessions on safety standards and procedures
Assist with the management and reporting of all WCB claims
Develop and manage Return to Work programs
Ensure that Health and Safety infractions are dealt with appropriately and promptly
Review and evaluate new and changing provincial regulations/legislation and their impact on the company
Position Requirements:
Completed CSO designation through Alberta Construction Safety Association
Minimum 3 to 5 years in the construction industry
WCB disability claims management experience
Ability to motivate employees to appreciate the importance of Health & Safety and their involvement in training programs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with orientations, site inspections, investigations, work practices and procedures, hazard identification and control, forecasting and trend analysis
Experience in communication of safety infractions to front line supervisors
Experience in monitoring the implementation of corrective measures
