Overall comfortable work environment and a satisfying learning experience
Produce Clerk (Current Employee), Thornhill, ONSeptember 2, 2013
Pros: company barbeques, holiday festivities
Cons: somewhat repetitive
- stocking customer accessible shelves and refrigerators with fresh produce, receiving and storing fresh product in suitable storage arrangements, communicating and accommodating customers needs and preferences
- learned effective communication skills and gained an in-depth perspective of a typical working environment
-friendly and empathetic management – more... team
-helpful and trustworthy co-workers that are team-oriented
-Difficulty: maintaining a visibly neat and clean produce section during "high-traffic" hours (holidays, weekends, etc.)
- I enjoy being part of an understanding team of employees that grants workers the responsibility to work without fear of unnecessary discipline – less

Easy to understand and challenging
Forklift Operator (Former Employee), Edmonton, ABJuly 3, 2013
I would clock in, activate my forklift and/or powerjack with the sobeys system and start my orders. They would come over the screen on the forklift and over a headset when operating the powerjack. I learned a lot about driving safely and what can happen when things go awry. The management was acceptable, however they seem to have authority issues. The – more... hardest part of my job was making sure that the forklift was aligned properly, especially before I got my glasses. – less

overall good workplace
Administrative Clerk (Current Employee), Stratford, ONJanuary 16, 2013
Pros: flexible work hours; understanding managers; generally happy work environment
Cons: poor training program
The most valuable skills I have taken from Sobeys is learning to work with a variety of people; how to professionally deal with customer complaints and inquiries; inputting and receiving invoices and payroll experience.
The managers and co-workers are all very upbeat and happy for the most part. The best part about my job at Sobeys is when mistakes – more... are made, we just learn from them, fix the problem and move on. – less

Fast paced job. Always lots to do and no time to waste. Whole meat dept crew has an excellent sense of humor.
MEAT & SEAFOOD PRODUCTION CLERK (Current Employee), Edson, ABAugust 5, 2012
Pros: average work day goes by very quickly. enjoy stepping out front and chatting with the customers.
Cons: have to learn to work in the cold for 8 hours a day.
My day starts with checking the live lobster tank (water, salt & ph levels). Checking the lobsters & removing any expired ones. Then I check the fresh seafood counter & all dates on products still remaining. I then take all temperatures required by Sobeys for the seafood department & then begin wrapping the grinds for the day. I am considered a "floater" – more... between the meat and seafood departments as I do both. My job is extremely fast paced as I'm jumping from one dept to the other. I work an 8 hour shift each day (usually 7-3, 7:30-3:30 or 8-4) with two 15 min paid breaks. – less
